| Walshaw Park Wolves 6 1 HSM Trojans League Saturday 29th January 2005
Yet another match played on a poor pitch, and the day got off to a bad start when Curtis was injured during the warm-up. He was taken to hospital with a suspected broken arm, and this was later confirmed. This was Trojans first game for 6 weeks, and predictably, it showed. Trojans were playing uphill during the first half and also found themselves playing more defensively than usual, with Jack playing just in front of the back four. They found themselves 1-0 down after 10 minutes, and Walshaw looked to have increased their lead soon after, but the goal was disallowed for offside. They did increase their lead after 17 minutes, and made it 3-0 on 25 minutes with an unlucky own goal. The second half saw Trojans back to their usual 4-4-2 formation, and they did appear to be more settled, playing some good attacking football. They had an excellent chance to score when Josh crossed a good ball into the area, but there was no one there to pick up. On 37 minutes, Trojans finally found the net, when Antony picked up an excellent cross from Jack, and scored. Two minutes later, Walshaw again found the net after an unlucky bobble in the area. They increased their lead even further 3 minutes later after a goalmouth scramble wasnt cleared. Trojans refused to give up, and continued to attack, but they were closed down every time. Walshaw scored again 5 minutes from the full time whistle to make the final score 6-1. Despite this being Trojans heaviest defeat, they didnt play as badly as the score line would suggest. Alix made a number of fantastic saves, and Walshaw would surely have scored well into double figures had it not been for him. Man of the Match Mark (always running, never gave up!) | Walshaw Sports 3-2 HSM Trojans League Saturday 5th February 2005
A good Trojans performance, despite the final score. Trojans were forced to make a number of changes Curtis was out with a broken arm, Robert was ill, and so Antony moved into the left back position, with Alex moving into central defence. Trojans also welcomed a new player in today Alex B, who played in midfield. Trojans made the early running and were by far the stronger team in the opening 10 minutes. They came close to scoring several times one shot going just wide of the post. Unfortunately, Walshaw took the lead on 11 minutes, much against the run of play (how many times have I written that before now??!!). The goal appeared to be offside, as did the one they scored two minutes later. These two goals gave Walshaw more confidence, and despite Trojans still playing some good football, Walshaw continued to attack. They were awarded several corners in succession, but the defence, despite looking shaky at times managed to clear the ball. Five minutes before half time, Walshaw added to their tally. Trojans defence were caught sleeping and they broke through. During the second half, Trojans were much improved. On 37 minutes, George set off on a run into the Walshaw penalty area and was quite clearly pulled back. The referee showed no hesitation in awarding a penalty, which George took, and scored. Minutes later, Jack was very unlucky not to score, taking the ball from inside Trojans own half and into the Walshaw penalty area, only to see his shot go just wide. On 43 minutes, Trojans did manage to find the net, when Jack beat several Walshaw defenders and crossed the ball into the box from a narrow angle. It was Jordan who managed to get a foot to it for Trojans second goal. The final 10 minutes were frantic. Trojans were desperately looking for the equaliser, and saw a free-kick go just wide. An entertaining game, and yet another one where, frustratingly, we were the better team. Walshaw also knew their pitch very well. During the first half they had the advantage of playing downhill, and all three of their goals came from long balls from inside their own half. Trojans defence was sloppy at times, although to be fair, it wasnt the usual line up. We were also caught offside far too many times. Man of the Match Jordan Never gave up, and NEVER stopped running! Team: Goal Alix Defence Luke, Chris, Alex M, Antony Midfield Josh, Jack, Jordan, Alex B Strikers George, Mark |
