Featured Dilemma:
Why Spay and neuter?
Dear Bob,

first off, did you know that one out of every four pets in and animal shelter in purebred? Next time you should consider to take a peep at all of those homeless yet EXTREMELY loveable petsat a shelter. Second, to answer your question, YES absolutely neuter him! You know why? Because close to 8 million adoptable pets are euthanized each year in "open-door" (other wise known as "kill" ) shelters every year in the U.S. alone!

Anyway, you can't afford
not to do it! Most communities have humane shelters and low cost spay/neuter programs that offer afordable services. Contact your veternarian, your local shelter, or the PETSMART Nearset you. It can be much more costly to you if you have a pregnant female with puppies to take care of , or if you have to split the vet bills with your neighbor because you got her female pregnant. Secondly, even if you keep your dog indoors, male pets have smelt females in heat and many have escaped their homes to reach he female. And last but not least, most pets are more reliable and responsible after neutering and are easier to train because of stableized hormones. What makes a male dog a good guard dog is training, not hormaones.

We hope that this new information helps you out in making the right descision!

Dear PAAW,

I just got a purebred puppy from a great breeder and I love him! Everyone has been telling me to neuter him but I don't have enough money for the procedure, I also want him to be a guard dog so I need to keep him aggressive, and besides he'll be kept indoors away from any females. I just don't think that it will be important for al of those reasons.

Thanks for your patients!

Bob
