Eternal Sun

"Ya'know, Angelus, I never quite imaged going out this way."

"Things change, William." Angel chuckled harshly.

"Don't we know it." Spike responded. "I'm glad you came to me." He added, after a bit of a silence.

"Nothing personal. After I heard the announcement, I had to be with someone who'd understand." Angel gazed out at the dark landscape.

"I was your last resort, huh?"

"No." Angel turned and smirked at him. "You're the only one still alive that's mine."

"Oh, I feel so much better, mate."

Another pause.

"So, where've you been keeping yourself?" Spike asked. "Helping another Slayer?"

"Nah." Was the reply. "I just enjoyed the world these last hundred years. After LA, ya'know..."

"Yeah. Terrible waste. All those people." Spike shook his head, stubbing his cigarette out.

"Yeah, cause you care so much for humanity." Angel responded sarcastically.

"All those wasted meals." Spike shook his head sadly, and looked up at Angel coyly, daring him to say something.

Angel merely sighed.

Then, "What about you Spike? What'd you do after Buffy died?"

"Made myself scarce. Didn't want to get blackmailed again. Tried to find Dru, no luck. Ran muck in Asia for a couple decades. Came back to the homeland these recent years." Spike faded with the memories.

Then he shook himself out.

The two demons sat on a bench, watching the landscape, waiting for it to happen.

"Regretting your decision to save the world when I tried to open Acathla?" Angel asked, ignoring the guilt-pang.

"Yeah. At least in Hell, I'd be alive. And these bloody humans wouldn't have had a chance to do this..."

"You think the Watcher's Council founded this?" Angel asked, thinking of the coming.

"No doubt. Wouldn't have to worry about the vampires anymore." Spike lit up another cigarette, determined to enjoy his time.

"They conveniently forgot about souled ones like me." Angel shook his head ruefully.

"Ah, they didn't like you anyways. Don't blame them, actually..." Spike trailed off, giving a devilish grin.

Angel hit him on the arm lightly, smiling.

"Say, Angel," Spike leaning in, and ticked Angel's arm with his finger-tip, leering seductively up at him, "Want to have go 'round? Face the end in your true form."

"I don't know, Spike. I kinda removed the happiness clause a couple decades ago."

"Well, them let's shag like bunnies mate. Relive those times a couple hundred years ago." Spike nestled his chin on Angel's shoulder, looking up adoringly at him.

"We don't have time, before..."

"But, come on, what a way to go." Spike batted his eyelashes. "Pretty please, for me?"

"I wouldn't do anything for you." Angel scoffed.

"That's not want you said all that long time ago." Spike twisted so his head was in Angel's lap.

Angel looked down at him. Spike was giving him those puppy dog eyes that almost caused Angelus to lose control. But Angel had more control over his actions. Or so he thought.

Angel leaned down to give Spike a chaste kiss on his lips, then pushed him up out of his lap.

"That's all, daddy? No more?" Spike pretended childish innocence, sticking out his lower lip.

"No more." Angel commanded. Spike dropped the act.

"I still can't believe. Even though I've had two weeks to get used to the idea..." Spike trailed off, the thought of the imminent end weighing heavy on his mind.

"What can we do?" Angel asked, looking at his watch. "It's only 5 minutes away. It's not like we can say, 'I'm sorry, we're two blood-sucking creatures of the night and we don't want you to carry through with this plan of yours.'"

"I heard that some crazy vamps in Holland did just that and got staked for their effort." Spike pulled his legs up, and wrapped his arm around his knee, puffing on the cigarette that was still in his hand.

"Promising, then, huh?" Angel asked, laughter his voice.

"Yeah." Spike was quiet. Then, "How much longer?"

"2 minutes."

Spike looked out at the already now lightening sky. He was getting an awful feeling in the pit of his stomach. He always said he wasn't afraid to die, but this feeling went against that. His very core, the demon inside of him was shaking. He didn't know if Angel's felt the same.

Angel glanced at his childe. He looked to be holding it together, but outward appearances weren't always the true feelings.

"How much?" Spike asked again.

"A minute."

They both stood as one, Spike stubbing the cigarette out on the bench that they had been sitting on. The sky was taking on a orange-ish tone.

"Angelus?" Spike said quietly.

"Yes, William?"

"I just wanted to let you know,"

"Know what?" Angel looked at Spike.

"That I love you."

Angel smiled and locked his fingers with Spike's.

"I love you too, my boy, always and forever." He kissed Spike's knuckles, then looked out to were the sun was crossing the horizon.

One glance to each other, and they surrendered to the burning pain of the eternal light.

The eternal light that had been set up to be on all the time, leaving nothing unpenatrated, wiping the vampiric race off of Earth for the rest of time.
