| About Horses Horses come in many differnt colors, breeds, and highths. The differnt colors are: black, red dun, fleabitten gray, liver chesnut, piebald, leopard appaloosa, red chestnut, skewbald, dappled brown, rose roan, Dappled beige dun, cream, dark liver, dappled chestnut, dappled gray, bay, palomino,& gray. Horses breeds range in a wide variety. I will just name a few of the basic breeds: Paint, Thoroughbred, Morgans,Appaloosa, Quarter horse, Shetland pony, Minuture horse, and Arabain. There highth from the withers, or shoulders for ponys is 7.2 hands - 14.0 hands (1 hand = 4 in.) A horses is 14.1- 19.0 hands. |
| Young horses Young horses are uasually horses under 4. They have two mane names fillies for girls and colts for boys. Many people think of all little horses as colts but really only a male is a colt. Just because a horse is big does not meen it isnt young. some horses are 2 and can be 4 ft at the withers! horse training usually starts right away!!! But not riding of course. the start out by having the horse get used to them. and then they start leading them around behind there mom. At about 2 1/2 you start practicing showmanship and maybe trying on bits and could posibly start trying on the saddle. but remember not very trainer does this the same way |
| HORSE-BACK RIDING There are differnt kinds of riding styles but for pleasure riding or trails or just fun there are two saddles: english (left) western (right). English saddles are used for jumping, english pleasure, english riding, dressage, and equestrian. English riding is usually for advanced riders. It is more complicated than western and less comfortable. If a rider wants to do english they must have to have good balance, and strong legs.Other wise you could end up getting hurt. Western is much more easer than engish. For one you have a horn to hold on to, and you have a more comfortable seat. In western equipment you can do gymkana, western pleasure, trail riding, trial, western walk, trott, canter, and just riding for fun! |
