Horror movies provide us with the entertainment suitable on Halloween night. During this time we like to scare ourselves with movies that range from favorite classics, to recent thrillers. It can be anything from Pyscho, to The Faculty. Listed are my favorite top 10 horror movies.
1. The Shining
*The Overlook Hotel has had it's fair share of murderers. The original caretaker is history, but the hotel that drove him to madness has a long memory. Jack is the new caretaker. It's a long, lonely winter ahead. He wants to concentrate on writing, but it's murder which occupies his mind. All work and no play makes Jack anything but a dull boy.*

2. Halloween (1)
*The sleepy town of Haddonfield is trying to forget... but the horror of fifteen years ago is back. It's Halloween again. The boogey man is on the loose.*

3. Psycho (1)
*Hitchcock's ultimate masterpiece in terror. Janet Leigh stars as a young woman fleeing town with $40,000 of her boss' money. She stops at the roadside Bates motel for a night of rest and is never seen again.*

4. Burnt Offerings
*A family decides to take over a house that belogs to a couple, where they must take care of the couples' mother. A family member soon becomes possessed and starts becoming somebody they... aren't.*

5. Jaws (1)

*Something is killing people at Amity beach. When a marine biologist discovers that a shark is responsible, he and a local sheriff decide to go hunt down the monster.*

6. Friday the 13th (1)
* Seven young camp counselors finally open up Camp Crystal Lake, which has been boarded up for years following a nasty murder. The killer is still on the loose, and proceeds to eliminate the counselors in a series of tedious, repetitive, ghastly murders.*

7. Pet Semetary (1)

*The Creeds have moved to a new town where things just don't seem to stay dead. People should learn not to bury their dead in the area which used to be an indian burial ground; a place where the dead walk, because "something dead is better."*

8. The Exorcist (1)
*A distraught professional seeks assitance from two Jesuit priests in battling an ancient demon who is posessing her prepubescent daughter. Controversial in it's time, this film has a dark atmosphere set in upscale Georgetown. God verses evil with a demonic twist.*

9. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1)

*One of the most intense, horrifying films of all time. Five teenagers travel to rural Texas in light of recent grave robbings, to check up on the tombs of their families. Before they know it, they end up in the evil clutches of Leatherface and family, a group of cannibalistic lunatics, who proceed to do all kinds of torurous things to the unsuspecting children. Allegedly based on the true story of serial killer Ed Gein.*

10. The Omen
*What would you do.. if you're son was the devil?*

Notice the pattern of movies here... the *first* movie before all the damn sequels. Which is probably partially the reasoning for The Shining being my favorite horror movie of all time. It was a long enough movie to keep you satisfied without adding the extra drama effect in the movies to follow. Even though I still wish in a way that another Shining would be made, I know that if one was, it would kill the whole essence of what a great horror movie is. Halloween 1, and Friday the 13th 1 were both awesome movies, with what were, well at the time, great and unique plots and storylines to keep people on the edge of their seats. Of course now, the only people who seem to be producing horror movies these days, are the ones who rely on sex and attractiveness to get somewhere with a movie that was originally supposed to be about scare and gore.
I've heard plenty of different opinions on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and say what you will, but this movie is exactly what horror movies are missing these days  - suspense. Yes, Scream and I Know What Your Grandmother Did Last Weekend had you hoping that Neve Campbell and Jennifer Love Hewitt would escape to safety, but in the end, whether they had died or not wouldn't have affected me. That's not to say that I don't like them as actresses, Jennifer Love Hewitt is totally awesome. But to be successful in a horror movie that will stay in your minds - even after you get home... that is horror.
