Foundry-Mechanical Plant is the biggest company in Horokhiv.  The workshop began its operation during the Polish rule of Volyn it was owned by Czech businessman Kalaban.   The workshops main function was as the repair shop for winnow-machines but also it served as a repair and production shop of small agricultural inventory.  In 1945 with the coming of Soviet Government to power the workshop was renamed Metalist it became repair shop for threshing machines and other agricultural machinery was set-up.  In 1943 workmens association of  Metalist had 28 workers which produced 80 tons of cast iron yearly.
In 50s workmens association became a foundry-mechanical plant.  The plant began production of stove casting and the auto repair shop was set up for complete overhaul repair of trucks, cars and different engines.  With the help of Kyiv Planning Institute the foundry processes were mechanized which increased productivity of work by 15-20 percent.  In 1962 plant produced 1805 tons cast iron including 952 tons (oven iron), 1500 chaff-cutters, and 43 thousand bushings for carts.

In accordance with decree of Ministry of UkranianSSR new foundry-mechanical plant total value of 2.5 million rubles was planed to be constructed in Horokhiv.  Unfortunately total price was only 157 thousand rubles.  Construction of the new plant began at the end of the 70s and had to be finished in the early 80s. Unfortunately the construction of the plant was prolonged due to the Soviet bureaucracy.  Thankfully for persistence and enthusiasms of engineering-technical workers the plant started to work starting with aluminum casting.  In the winter of 1996 the line of cast iron started production.  The workers of the company believe in the better future of the foundry.  They are trying with all their efforts to start as fast as possible plant working to its fool capacity.  The Horokhiv foundry-mechanical plant has a great potential not only with aluminum and cast iron but also it plans to produce bronze casting.
