| MAYOR In June of 1998 in the elections for mayor�s office of Horokhiv form five candidates Valeriy. O. Sobuckyi was elected a mayor. In his election campaign he did not make false promises. V.Sobuckyi only stated that his main task is �to do good for the people with all his abilities with concrete work and sensible approach to people. Valeriy Oleksandrovych Sobuckyi was born on August 28, 1952 in the village of Hubyn of Horokhiv rayon. After the completion of secondary education at Senkevechivka high school he was accepted to faculty of civil engineering at Rivno Vodnyi Institute. Sobuckyi�s career begun in 1974 at Horokhiv Mizhkolgospbud (construction company) were he worked until he was elected to mayor�s office. In the construction company he begun working as a foreman and finished as a head of the company. Sobuckyi has tight knit and supportive family. Wife Maria is main specialist of agriculture, daughter Oksana programmer and son Ruslan a student at Lutsk Technical University. Sobuckyi is interested in Horokhiv�s history and his favorite hobby beekeeping (apiculture). Valeriy Sobuckyi thinks the future belongs to the youth but he never forgets about the least socially secure category of citizens: elderly, veterans of war, orphans. As he says �Mayor of town is not political but economical position�. Anybody of any party or group that will come up with interesting idea or proposition will be supported. Sobuckyi thinks mayor�s most important task is to contribute to common good and understanding between political parties and organizations, and different confessions that are active in town. The country is in harsh economical situation which is reflected on Horokhiv but Valeriy. O. Sobuckyi is convinced as many others that these are only temporary problems. They all look and think forward into the hopefully brighter future. REVIEW Unfortunately industry of Horokhiv is in a slow down. Only two companies made profit in 1999 �Kooperator� and �Merkuriy� all the others were in loses. Even though there are 54 business men and women in town and 341 workers, they are still weak and are just starting. Budget of the town is 2-2.5 times lower than three years ago. The administration�s communal property accounts to 110 residential buildings, 11 heating stations, 12.2 km of water piping, 6 water wells, 17.3 km street and sewerage piping, 64 km of town roads. Of course there are some positive things. Two winters in the row there were non heating problems due to preventive works. Budget employees received the pay on time. All of the street markets were organized. The Second market opened �Torhovycya�. Three streets were paved. The laying of natural gas piping is almost ending. Right now there are two main jobs to complete finishing of gas pipe connection and planning and organizing of public services. After the laying of gas pipes almost half of the streets� paving in town was destroyed. Sixteen streets still need to be paved. Horokhiv�s Mayor Office employs four people. There are 24 deputies of town council (mis�ka rada) elected residents which work in different scope of professions. There is always a helping hand from head of Rayon administration Halyna Yakymchuk, and head of rayon council Evhen Sereda. These elected leaders are convinced that without strong towns, cities and industry there can not be a strong country. There is always help from town�s businessmen when Mayor needs it.
