New Season, New Term
By this time we will all be well into our new seasons with our performing groups and students will be settling into the new term at school. If you want to see more interesting articles in this newsletter some of you will have to start letting me know what you're up to. I would still very much like to get reports from schools about what they're up to.

I have visited many of the links for orchestras in the southern Ontario area and found several significant horn performances. Check the calendar for specifics. The Strauss horn concerto in Eb seems to be popular this year. Not only are there two performances this fall, but while working on it I discovered a couple of students preparing it. One was preparing it for classroom performacne while another used it for a university audition. Both of these kids are more ambitious than I was at that age. It's taken me almost thirty years of playing to get up the nerve to try it.

Workshop in the works
Canadian co-ordinator George Lloyd has contacted me with the idea of putting together some sort of event in the central region (probably Toronto) to bring Canadian horn players together. This could be a one day workshop or reading session. We would like to get something happening that could turn into an annual weekend event. I will be looking for a host and location very soon. If you have any ideas of wish to contribute to this endeavour please contact me.

Design Contest
The International Corno Pazzo Contest seeks to encourage and recognize creative thinking by horn players. This years contest will focus on the design of horn equipment: now is your chance to design the horn, mute, case, etc. of your dreams. Designs may be realizable or completely fanciful.

Deadline: April 1, 2002.
