See You In Kalamazoo
At the time of this writing, there's just one month to go until this year's IHS Symposium at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. George Lloyd and I still hope to see some Canadian attendees at the festivities. I still have not been able to wriggle out of the panel discussion entitled "How To Have a Day Job And Still Be A Horn Player". So choose your schedule carefully on Tuesday morning.

Other Canadian participants include Jamie Sommerville who will be participating in a recital on Wednesday evening as well as giving a master class on Thursday morning.

You will probably never have a better opportunity to play as many different models of horn from as many companies. Factory representatives as well as endorsers and artists will be on hand. Where else can you try out an alphorn after checking out a brand new Schmid or Pizka Horn? Publishers of ensemble music as well as studies and solos along with the latest specialty hardware abound in the vendor's room. Yes you can buy stuff to bring home with you.

An IHS conference is a truly eye-opening experience. Everyone there has the same goal (or opponent, depending on your outlook) which is to play the horn. Participants can play in ensembles made up of everyone from high school and college/universtiy students and adult amateurs to semi-professionals and teachers and professors.

Updates can be found at the IHS and Symposium websites.
