Ng KengFong, Colin |
|
Colin Ng started playing the baritone with the former Dunearn Technical Secondary School military band in 1990. Towards the end of that year, he chanced upon the French horn in the Singapore Soka Association (SSA) Brass Band and fell in love with the instrument ever since. Self-practice ensured until he joined the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in 1997 and started formal training with Dixie De Souza, from the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO). Colin came under the tutelage of horn associate principals (SSO), Jamie Hersch in 2002 and associate principal horn, GaoJian in 2003. Colin is also a certified drum major by the Australian Defense Force School of Music (DFSM-Melbourne) since 1999 and served as Hornfellow and Drum Major of the SAF Bands from 1997 to 2003, adjudicating for the SYF Outdoor Marching Band Competitions in 2002 and 2000. Since 1995, Colin has been actively involved in the local music scene, conducting horn clinics & mace drill lessons in schools. Playing the horn has seen him performed in many local community bands & tertiary institutions. Colin performed with the NIESB at the Janistjafestivalen Hamar in Norway when the band was awarded 1st Prize in 1995. In 2001, he participated in World Music Contest (WMC-Kerkrade) in Holland with the MusArt Wind Orchestra and was awarded the 2nd Prize.
Colin is constantly inspired to higher musical proficiency by his horn mentors, Jamie Hersch and GaoJian. His officers from the SAF Bands, MAJ(ret) Tonni Wei and CPT Philip Tng, (Senior Directors of Music, SAF) remain an inspiration in the direction of conducting and music pedagogy.

Ricco Kühn Model W293 / W294 "Reißmann / Börner", Full Double Horn in F/Bb |
| The so far best selling "Ricco Kühn" double horn is the W293 model.
This double horn represents a further development of the well known Reißmann/Börner
instruments. The wide bell piece has been completely revised and is now
mensurated according to the latest computations. By means of a newly developed
mechanism the unlovely switch noise of the 120° valve (characteristic
for the K- model) could be cleared away without affecting the perfect air
passage unfavourably. Model W294 possesses an additional A- / stop valve.
