You may recognize this as the villa of Baron Von Trapp in "The Sound of Music". It actually belongs to Harvard University, who lent it to the movie company when the relatives of the Baron living in the ancestral home did not wish filming to occur there. This is in Salzburg, Austria. Schonnbrun Palace at the outskirts of Vienna, Austria. This was the summer palace (at that time it was out in the country) of the Hapsburg Empire. The dynasty ruled the Austria-Hungarian Empire. Having never seen a palace, I was astounded at the wealth of the furnishings and art decorations. The grounds also are enormous and beautifully landscaped.

Salzburg, Austria, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. A beautiful dome inside a convent located in Austria. This convent was used in The Sound of Music as Maria's convent.

Here is my favorite souvenir from my Oberammergau trip. This is a handcarved cuckoo clock from the Black Forest. I bought it in Innsbruck, Austria. An example of the luscious church ornamentation that is common in Austria and Germany. This is the interior of a church located in a convent they represented as Maria's convent in The Sound of Music.

This is the mountain pass we traveled to get to Innsbruck from Vienna. What an unforgettable experience. The red dot on the road is a bicyclist. Talk about a workout!
