Religious Beliefs
Mali residents were free to be whatever religion they wanted to be.  90% of the residents were Muslim while Indigenous Beliefs were 9% of the residents and 1% of the residents were Christian.  Those who lived in Mali had freedom of speech, religion, and more.
Most of Songhai residents were Muslim.  Few of the residents have converted to Catholic.  The Koran was the Bible and Allah was the God.  The five pillars are shahada, salat, zakat, sawm, and Hajj.

SHAHADA: The profession of faith in God and the apostleship of Muhammad
SALAT: The ritual prayer, performed five times a day facing Mecca
ZAKAT: Almsgiving
SAWM: (fasting), abstaining from food and drink during the daylight hours of the month of Ramadan
HAJJ: the pilgrimage to Mecca, incumbent on every believer who is financially and physically able to undertake it
