Chapter 6
After School

Amy and Carly started home. Amy took out her house key and opened the door. Concha greeted them with open arms. Hello Amy! How was school today? Who is your friend? Concha said. Nervously, Carly replied, I'm Carly. Nice to meet you, Concha. Nice to meet you too sweetie! Ill go whip you two up something special. How about brownies? Concha said. Mmmm! Sounds good! Amy replied. Be right back, Concha said scurrying off.
Gosh, your maid is nice, Amy! Carly said wide-eyed. I know! Amy said. Hey, lets go up to the hobby room and play Nintendo! Amy said excitedly. Race you, Carly said. Ready, set, GO! Amy said. After climbing two stories of stairs, sprinting down the hall, and jumping over the crack in the floor, Carly finally beat Amy in the race across the OHara home.
Girls! Brownies are ready! Concha yelled from downstairs. Coming! Carly and Amy yelled back. This time, they walked down the stairs to the kitchen to eat the warm, delicious, chewy brownies. "Now you girls eat up! There's plenty more where that came from!" Concha said. Amy and Carly ate and ate. By the time they were done, they had eaten 5 brownies each!
"I need some milk," Carly said drowsily. "Me too," Amy said as if she were about to fall asleep. "Here you go girls," Concha said. "Thanks!" The girls said as if it was their last chance to live. "Let's go back up to my room, Carly. Thanks for the great brownies, Concha!" They girls raced up to the room again. This time, Amy won. "I guess it's a tie! 1-1," Amy said.
"Which game do you want to play now? Diddy Kong Racing?" Amy asked. "Sure!" Carly responded. Amy turned on the game. The race began. Amy was in the lead. Around the corner, up the ramp, down the shortcut, Carly passes her up, they're at the finish line andIT'S A TIE! "Nice race," Amy said as if it were real. Brrrring! The phone rang. "Just let Concha get it, I don't know where the phone is, the only one up here is in my parents' room." The girls looked at each other like they had an idea. Amy opened the door and the two girls silently walked out to the staircase so they could here the entire conversation. "Hello," They heard Concha say picking up the phone.
"No, they're not here at the moment, this is the housekeeper Uh huh I see Yes shes safe No I havent seen the news, Mrs. Fernandez, please calm down, what has happened? Ohwould you like to speak to her? Sureone moment Concha ran upstairs yelling Carlys name.
The girls acted casual, like they werent listening. Carly come downstairs, your parents are on the phone, Concha said as if nothing was wrong. Sure, Carly said to Concha. Carly saw the worried look on Amys face. Come with me, theyre probably just checking up on me, Carly said as if it were the usual deal. She energetically answered the phone, Hi Mom! Whats up? She paused with the look of terror in her eyes.
