| NEPTUNES IN SEARCH OF... PERFECT ALBUM August 14, 2001 (from NME.com) Production duo THE NEPTUNES have returned to the studio to re-record their first album IN SEARCH OF... The pair, Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams, working under their N*E*R*D guise, have decided to record the album again with live instruments rather than programming. A spokesperson for the act told NME.COM that a limited number of the current pressing was being released and that Virgin are hoping it will become a collectors item. The album is likely to appear early in spring 2002, he added. Speaking yesterday to Entertainment Weekly in the US, Hugo said: "The music and the lyrics were there but the magic wasn't. With the old album, you had to drink or smoke to get into it. The new album will intoxicate you." Neptunes Trash Their N*E*R*D Debut August 15, 2001 (from MTV.com) Production maestros the Neptunes didn't find what they were looking for when they first tracked their debut album as N*E*R*D, In Search Of... The duo have scrapped the effort and re-recorded its songs with live instrumentation instead of programming. The album, which was originally due in July, has not been rescheduled, though Neptune Pharrell Williams recently said it would come out in the fall. The revised LP will feature all of the same songs and retain the same title, a Virgin Records spokesperson said. There was no word on whether a new version of the single, "Lap Dance," will be serviced to radio. Though they initially established themselves primarily as hip-hop producers, Williams and partner Chad Hugo recently have beefed up their pop and rock credits, producing tracks for Britney Spears, 'NSYNC and No Doubt (see "Neptunes Working With Britney, Kelis, But Dreaming Of Michael Jackson"). Teri vanHorn |
