Vintage Dingbats

Vintage Dingbats was basically created to fulfill a personal need. The original set of 31 dingbats was found in a graphics handbook from 1930 and I have used them in one form or another in a variety of projects over the past 30 years ( the first time I ever used them [in a poster] was in 1966). After all these years, I decided to work on an extended computerized version and share it with the rest of the world.

The style of the dingbats is ornamental and floral but with a somewhat whimsical and animated reserve. Its hard to describe but you will know exactly what I mean when you see them. The nature of them would be conducive to a wide range of projects.

This particular set contains 86 characters; the original 31 characters to which I have added flipped, rotated and resized versions in number, punctuation, Option and Shift - Option keyboard positions. I debated creating a legend for the ease of finding corresponding characters but decided that the adventure of finding and discovering them for oneself also had merit. Besides, navigating paired sets of characters such as left - right, or four corner sets, etc. does have a kind of wacky logic once you get used to it (not to mention programs that will provide you with this information far better than I could here).

I hope you like this dingbat set. Personally, I think it is one of the most beautiful and useful dingbat fonts I have ever seen. I also hope that this expanded and "electronic" version pays homage and tribute to the original (and anonymous) artist who created it.

This is shareware. If you find it useful for a project, help me recover some of my time-related expense in the high definition creation of this font. If you decide to keep it, please send $5.00 to:
