[1] Roman cavalry can dismount as Reg Sw F, (Pro), H, Shk/Msl [Jav] of similar class, grade etc.

[2] Mounted units fought in units of 2 to 6 elements.

[3] Equites contariorum can dismount as Reg Sp F, (Pro), H, Shk of similar class, grade etc.

[4] Professional Legionnaire cohorts may remove their unformed marker at the beginning of a round, by expending 2 CoPs, even when in contact with an enemy, only if  their numbers are intact (i.e. have not lost any element). This is an optional advantage and costs an additional point per element.

[5] Legions in HOPLON are best organized into 8 two-element cohorts, plus one three-element cohort. This total would then represent a (rare) full strength legion. The average strength of a legion in the field would be 6 two-element cohorts plus one of three-elements, totaling 15 elements. A unit for HOPLON can be either a cohort of 2 or 3 elements or a manipulus of 4 elements. Legions are not necessarily entirely Pro or non. In many cases, legions were brought up to strength with raw recruits.

[6] Batavian Cv can dismount as Irr Sw, H, Shk/Msl [Jav] of similar class, grade etc.

[7] German Superior, Fast  Barbarians fight differently than Gallic ones. Germans count the +1 when losing, but do not win when drawing.

[8] Judean Cv may dismount as Reg Sp S, F, H, Shk/Msl [Jav].

[9] Up to 1 Medium per Pro Legion and up to 1 Light per any Legion.
