[1] In mixed Greek armies, each one of the (larger) city-states must be fielded under their own Command (Sparta, Athens, Thebes, Boeotia, Phokaia, Syrakousai) and their elements cannot form part of a different Command. Hoplite units were usually large (6 to 8) when fighting other hoplites, but would be more flexible when opposite differently armed opponents. Smaller city-state contingents should form entire units on their own, within rule limitations.  When fighting ‘barbarian’ (non-Greek) opponents, the position of honour (the right wing) was always given to the Spartan Command, the second place being the left wing.

[2] Up to ˝ of total Perioikoi fielded may be Pro1.

[3] In all Greek armies fielding cavalry, any trained and non-Inferior Psiloi javelinmen may support mounted as Hamippoi.

[4] Thebans can field up to one 8-element strong unit capable of fighting four ranks deep against other phalanges.

[5] Representing larger cities, like Argos or Corinth, down to the smaller ones, like Plataiai or Sikyon or any of the smaller islands.

[6] Smaller cities with less than 4 elements cannot field Epilektoi. In general, only larger cities could field up to 1000  professionals.

[7] Colonist Greeks could vary to great degree in quality, ranging from competent to neglected.
