| Data: * Most of the children that have this disorder do not live beyond the first year, but there are those rare occasions that they do. (1) * One in every 3000 live births have Trisomy 18 (7) * 90 to 96% of all cases die by their first birthday (7) * 50% of all diagnosed cases are within the first 16 to 18 weeks do not live until term (7) * This disorder rarely developes in monozygotic twins (identical twins) (7). |
| Quality of Life: The quality of life will be nothing compared to a "normal" child. The child, if lives past the age of one will have increase health problems, especially dealing with the heart and will have several motor and mental disabilities. However with the right prepations and learning experiences, these children can live a happy life. |
