Roland Country
Come and immerse yourself in Roland Country.  The Travel Gems - Roland Country DVD is designed as a round trip of the area to show you what is available in the area.  The following links may help when planning your next visit to our beautiful area, please allow at least a week for the immediate area..

Mount Roland glimpsed from right along the North West Coast of Tasmania has
walking tracks to the summit.  an abundant birdlife and beautiful views
Mount Roland and Lake Barrington for more photos click on photo
Cradle Mountain
More than a national park, this beautiful area also offers Tasmanian Devil education at the devils@cradle, the Waldheim Alpine Spa, and wilderness gallery.

My favourite walk in the Cradle Mountain National Park is the Dove Lake circuit walk, it's easiest on the legs if started from the right hand side. however if you only have a short time take the left hand track to the look out and have a friend take your photo in front of Cradle Mountain.  There are shorter walks that are wheelchair friendly, the visitor center within the park itself will be able to give you directions.
Walks in the area
Latrobe
Renowned for being able to see the Platypus in its natural habitat take a walk around the boardwalk at Warrawee Forest Reserve in the early morning or late afternoon.

If you are unsure of what to look for drop into the
visitor information center for a guided tour.
Railton "town of topiary"
Maps are available to help you view the abundant topiary in various stages of growth at Railton.  With Tasmania's only living Tasmanian Tiger (a topiary) among the collection.

Take a walk at
Stoodley Forest reserve managed by Forestry Tasmania and view the different tree groups and abundant fungi.

Sykes sanctuary was left to the Railton community by Norman Sykes. The sanctuary has theories developed by Mr Sykes on monuments inside the sanctuary and an abundant birdlife to listen to.

Wilmot "valley of views"
Wilmot home of the original Coles Store, the store has many of the original features of the old building and has a small collection of memorabillia at the back of the store.

Take a walk down to
Forth Falls, by the side of Lake Barrington, access is via the Cafe Gardens which are open from October through to April. You are most welcome to walk at other times of the year, park in the car park and close gates after use, while every effort is made to keep the track clear you may have to climb over fallen branches.

Stop in at one of the best kept collections of farming tools in the Wilmot Museum.

Rmember to keep your eyes open to see the
Novelty Mailbox Trail on your way around and out of town.
Sheffield "town of murals"
As the name suggests there is an abundance of murals in Sheffield.  The original murals show the history of the surrounding area and this can be greatly enhanced by using the mural audio tour available from the visitor information center.  As the mural phenomena grew Mural Fest developed, allowing nine artists to compete each year based on that year's poem, painting the mural in a week which enables the general public to see the Murals being painted.

However as you can see there are more than murals in the area to keep you busy.  The
Redwater Creek Steam & Heritage Society's 2 foot gauge steam train runs on the first weekend of each Month. SteamFest is held annually on the long weekend in March   History is to be foraged in the Kentish Museum and Auntie Iris's Doll Museum.  Art History to be discovered on a guided tour of Mural House.  See artists at work at the Working Art Space.

In the surrounding area you will find
Lake Barrington, Tasmazia and Lorinna.

While you visit you may check your email, and burn your photographs to disk at the
Sheffield Online Access Centre.
There are many good tour companies in the area.  I had a lovely time filming with tour bus operator Howard Smith of Cradle-Coast Tours, we didn't just have a destination of the Stanley Nut we had a lovely journey.
Fancy a ride through the Tasmanian bush on a horse or quad bike, Blaze Trail Rides Tasmania based at Lower Beulah, can take you for a ride
