Christopher was three months old and Kris was getting ready for her wedding. Kris and Taylor's families were in town, staying at a local hotel except for the very immediate family who was staying in the houses. Zac and Ginger got the pleasure of taking care of Diana and Walker along with Jess and her boyfriend.
"Jessica, I don't care if you and him have been together for all of your life, you're not sleeping in the same bedroom!" Zac was trying to deal with his twenty-one-year-old sister and her very serious boyfriend. They'd been together for a long time and there were questions arising about marriage but they hadn't even spoken of it yet.
"Zac, I'm not a little kid anymore," Jess said. "I'm a twenty-one-year-old woman and we're sharing a bedroom."
"No, you're not. You're sleeping in Jenny's room, he's sleeping in Christopher's room, Jenny and Chris are sleeping with me and Ginger and that is it! I don't want to hear another word from anybody!" Zac stormed out of the room. He couldn't handle this much family around. The last time he'd had anybody from his family in his house was on his birthday a year ago and that didn't go well at all. It could be worse; Kris and Taylor had the duty of housing Kris's parents, her brother, along with Avery, Mackenzie, and Ike and Roni. They had even more people, but that was only for a night because the next evening, after the wedding and reception, Taylor and Kris were going on a honeymoon.
"Such a happy family," Ginger muttered, holding Christopher in her arms. Jenny was running around, showing off her newly pierced ears to her grandparents, who in return went out and bought her some new earrings. Jess was looking at Ginger, expecting her to go to Zac and overturn his decision to have Jess and her boyfriend sleep in separate bedrooms, but Ginger didn't want to get involved. "I'm not doing anything, Jess. It's for two nights. Try and deal with it for two nights."
"You and Zac get to sleep together," she muttered.
"We're married!" Ginger said. "It's completely different!"
"You got to sleep together when you weren't married," Jess said.
"You know what, Jess, Zac just has a problem dealing with his little sister growing up. There is nothing I can do about it. The best thing you can do for everyone is just suck it up and don't sleep with your boyfriend for two whole days. Deal with it."
"You're not helping," Jess said.
"I'm sorry," Ginger told her. "I'm not getting involved." Ginger turned around and walked into the kitchen where Zac was on the phone with the bakery, trying to get whatever problem he was having now fixed. Ginger sat down next to him and took his hand, and he offered her a grateful smile. "How are you doing?" she asked.
"I'm on hold," he said. "Again."
"I didn't ask if you were on hold," Ginger said, smiling. "I asked how you were doing."
"I'm absolutely terrible," he said. "I'm getting sick of this wedding bullshit, Ginger. This is why we eloped."
"That and we thought I was going to die."
"You thought you were going to die. I never believed that," Zac said. "Is Jess mad?"
"She'll get over it," Ginger said, trying to reassure him. "She's just not used to having boundaries set on her. She's too used to being on her own with that boyfriend of hers. I told her that I wasn't getting involved but frankly, I agree with you. They're not married. They don't need to stay together."
"Exactly my point! IHello?" Zac let go of Ginger's hand and stood up. "Yes, I'm sure you're backed up because of Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day is today. I need that cake tomorrow. I placed an order weeks ago and you said you'd have it on time, but now you're telling me I never ordered one to begin with!" Ginger could hear the anger in Zac's voice rising with every word. "No! I placed it weeks ago under Zac Hanson and you said you'd have it ready. If I don't have a wedding cake by this time tomorrow I am going to come down there and kick your ass!"
"Zac, calm down," Ginger said. Zac ignored her.
"Fine. You look for it," he said. He plopped down in a chair at the counter. "This is getting out of hand." He waited a few minutes. "Yes? Did you find it? You did? Well, there. I was right. I'll pick it up tomorrow." He hung up the phone and threw it on the counter. "They found it. 'Oh, I'm sorry Mr. Hanson, it was stuck to one of the other orders and I couldn't see it' I hope that chick gets fired."
"It was a girl! You were yelling at a girl?"
"Shut up," he said immediately. Ginger gave him a look. "I said shut up! I don't want to take this from anyone! All I've been doing for the past week has been yelling at random stupid people."
"And me. You've been yelling at me," Ginger said.
"No I haven't."
"You're yelling right now!" He rolled his eyes. "Kind of makes me feel not loved."
"Gingeryou're crazy."
"My husband doesn't love me anymore!" She put her free hand over her eyes. Zac got off the chair and walked over to her, putting his arms around her.
"I love you," he whispered in her ear. She smiled and turned to him, dropping her hand.
"I love you too."
A half an hour things were calming down. Jess had finally accepted Zac's demands and sat with him on the couch, Jenny sitting on her father's lap, as the three of them watched television. Jess's boyfriend was on a plane from Tulsa; it turned out he had to work that morning and couldn't come with Jess. Ginger and Christopher were on the recliner and Christopher was nursing.
Kris came running in and Ginger couldn't help but look over. "Rosemary, get over here."
"I'm in the middle of something," she said, glancing down at Christopher.
"I'll wait." Kris sat down and waited, luckily enough Christopher was done soon. Kris pulled Ginger out of the room.
"What happened? What's wrong now?" Ginger asked. So many things had gone with this wedding that Ginger was afraid to hear about it again.
"They lost my dress."
"What?!"
"They lost my dress! I don't know what to do! I went down there to pick it up and they said they hadn't gotten it back from the person who was altering it, so I called her and she said she'd sent it back a week before! I don't have a dress."
"Oh my GodZac!"
"What now?"
"Come here!" Zac got up and walked into the foyer where Kris and Ginger had settled. "They lost her dress."
"Who lost her dress?"
"The dress place! They lost it!"
"Oh my God" Zac said. "What the hell are we going to do?"
"I don't know!" Ginger said. "UghI'm going to go down there with her. Here, take Christopher, I'm going to go down there with her." Zac eyed his wife, but still took Christopher from her arms. "I'll deal with it. Hopefully we won't be gone long."
"Are you sure you can do this?" Zac asked. "I could go with you."
"No," Ginger said. "No, I'll be fine. You stay here and take care of anything else that might happen." She kissed him. "We'll be back." She grabbed her purse and Zac gave her the cell phone in case she needed help. Ginger pulled Kris out of the house and got in the car. "I'll drive."
"Thank you, sis." Ginger got in the car and began to drive to the bridal shop. Kris began to cry almost as soon as they were alone in the car. "I don't understand why everything keeps going wrong!"
"Kris," Ginger said, shaking her head, "Things always go wrong. Every time you try to get a wedding together like this, things happen! It's a fact of life. So a few more things have gone wrong with this one; it's only because it's so rushed! Usually you have a lot more timebut Kris, all you can do is look on it with humor and when it gets down to it, scream your pretty little head off." Kris laughed.
"I just want everything to just happen. I don't want to deal with any more problems. I just want to get married. Screw this; we're going to the courthouse and getting married like you and Zac. I used to think it wasn't a good idea that you eloped, but now I'm really digging it."
"Kris, you are not about to elope now. I have gone through too much for you to run off and throw it all away!" Kris rolled her eyes. "I'll find your dress. If I have to spend the rest of the day searching the streets of Los Angeles I will find it! I'll have to stop off at home and get Christopher because Zac doesn't know what the hell he's doing, but I'll still get it."
"You do too much, Rose," Kris said, looking over at her sister. "Thank you."
"It's not a problem, sweetie," Ginger said, glancing over at her sister. "I didn't get a wedding, so I'm living out my dream through yours." Kris smiled. "Is that the place?" Ginger asked, pointing.
"Yup."
"Let's burn it down!"
"Roseyou're so crazy."
"I know," Ginger said. She pulled into the parking lot and parked. "All right, ready to kick some ass?"
"Ready."
Ginger got out of the car, went inside, and within a half an hour walked back out with Kris's dress, which had been unknowingly placed on the wrong rack. Kris got into the car with a smile on her face. "You are so awesome, Rose," Kris said.
"I know."
"Can I keep it at your house? Taylor can't see it."
"Sure." Kris's smile grew. Things were finally coming together.
"Zac, get out of here!" Ginger said, pushing Zac out of their bedroom about twelve-thirty the next morning. Kris was getting ready for the wedding at two o'clock and Zac was, of course, interrupting.
"I want to see!" Zac said, trying to dodge Ginger.
"You can see when everyone else sees at the wedding," Ginger said. "Get out, don't bug us, go over to Taylor's where you're supposed to be!"
"Kris, you look pretty!" Zac called as Ginger finally got him in the hallway.
"Go!" Ginger shut the door and turned around, letting of a huff. "I swear, he doesn't act like he's twenty-three." Ginger looked at Kris, who was studying herself in the mirror. "Honey, you look so beautiful."
"Thank you," Kris said, smiling. "It's all you. I wouldn't even have a dress if it weren't for you." Ginger smiled. She walked into the bathroom and went into the closet where her dress was. She slipped herself into it and then walked back into the bedroom where Kris was just about ready.
"The photographer should be here soon," Ginger said to Kris. "Once she gets here we'll take pictures and then we'll go to the hotel. Then you get married, then we have a reception, then you go on your honeymoon"
"Rose," Kris warned.
"I'm sorry." Ginger's eyes welled with tears. "I'm so happy!"
"Don't cry," Kris said. "If you cry, I'm going to cry." Ginger didn't say anything as she burst into tears. "Oh, honey" Kris put her arms around her sister. "Nothing's going to change and you know that. Me and Taylor have been practically married all this time, this is just making it official."
"I'm just so happy."
"Me too, sweetie." Kris let go of Ginger, wiping at her eyes as the door opened and Jess walked in, wearing the same bridesmaid dress as Ginger.
"The photographer's here," she said. "She's looking around the house for places to shoot pictures."
"All right," Ginger said, drying her eyes. "We'll be down in a minute." Jess left and Ginger turned to her sister. "Are you all set? Ready for pictures?"
"I'm always ready for pictures," Kris said. "Let's go." Kris and Ginger went out of the room and down the stairs where the photographer had already found a few places to stick Kris for pictures. The first place was outside on the balcony overlooking the ocean. Ginger settled in the living room while Kris took her pictures with the other bridesmaidsRoni, Jess, and Avery. They were all wearing the same wine colored dress that Kris had picked out a few months beforehand and did a very good job of it. The dress was almost as beautiful as Kristina's, but of course, the bride had to be the most beautiful person in the room.
"Rosemary!" Kris called from the door in the kitchen that led to the balcony. "Come out here!" Ginger got up and walked over to the kitchen.
"What?" Ginger asked.
"You're going to be in this picture with me." Ginger nodded and walked out onto the balcony. The February air in Los Angeles that day was just perfect. The sky only had tufts of puffy white clouds scattered around and the ocean was glistening with excitement, as if it knew what an exciting day it was.
"Why don't you stand over there on the right side of your sister?" the photographer asked. Ginger stepped up next to her sister. "Scoot in a little bit closer, heads together, and give me a big smile." Tears welled in Ginger's eyes again as she did what she was told and gave a big smile for the camera. As soon as the picture was snapped, a tear fell out of her eye and she wiped it away. "Here." The photographer handed Ginger a tissue; she was definitely prepared for this. "Are you excited?"
"Definitely," Kris answered. "Definitely excited."
"Nervous?" Kris shook her head.
"Not at all." Ginger turned to her sister and smiled. Kris smiled back and they took another picture.
