Chapter Forty-Nine

Three days later Zac sat in a preparation room in a LA hotel with a very nervous Taylor who was trying to get ready. All Zac had to do was his bow tie, but Taylor was waiting on his shirt that Roni was ironing. He was the idiot who didn't put it on a hanger when he brought it from the apartment. Kris and Taylor were getting married in one of the event rooms downstairs, and a reception in a different room was to be held almost immediately afterward. All the guests were staying in the hotel for the night.

"Where the hell is my shirt?" Taylor asked. "I can't exactly do anything else without it."

"Roni will be here any minute, Taylor," Zac said. "Calm down. We still have plenty of time."

"Have you seen Kris yet?" Taylor asked.

"Have I left this room all morning?" Zac retorted. Taylor gave him a look. "No, Taylor, I haven't seen her. But trust me, I'm sure she's here."

"I know she's here," Taylor said. "I just want to know how she looks."

"You're not supposed to know how she looks, Taylor," Zac said. "It's supposed to be a surprise. I'm sure she looks absolutely breathtaking. Stop worrying, I doubt Kris is even freaking out this much."

"I am not freaking out!" There was a knock at the door. "Finally!" Zac got up and opened the door. It was Ginger and she didn't have a shirt in her hand, so Taylor would have to wait.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?" Ginger asked.

"Sure. Taylor, I'll be right back."

"You better come back with my shirt!" Taylor yelled. Zac shut the door, sighing.

"Please tell me you're here to kill him," Zac said. Ginger smiled but her smile faded quickly. "What's wrong? Kris is here, isn't she?"

"Yeah, yeah," Ginger said, waving her hand. "She's fine. She's a little nervous, but she's fine. She looks gorgeous." Zac waited for her to explain. "It's justmy best friend's getting married!" Zac let out a sigh of relief. At least it wasn't something serious.

"Oh, honey, it's okay." He opened his arms and let her fall into them. She began to cry. "No, Ginger, don't cry. It's going to be okay. You're still going to see her every day. You're going to see her as much as you did before. She's just Kristina Hanson now, that's all."

"I want to be Ginger Hanson."

"You will be."

"When are we getting married, Zac?" Ginger asked, looking up at him. She refused to let herself cry because she didn't want to mess up her makeup before the ceremony.

"Whenever you want, dear."

"Let's get marriedtomorrow."

"How about we wait a little bit, okay? I know you want a big ceremony like this." She sighed.

"Yeah, that's true." She stepped back. "I'm sorry. Kris and I are pregnant and we're in that room trying to get readyit's like Niagara Falls in there." Zac smiled.

"You look absolutely beautiful," he told her. Kristina had picked out a light blue fitted dress for all of the bridesmaids and it looked breathtaking on Ginger.

"Thank you baby," she said. She kissed him. "Oh, there's Roni with Taylor's shirt."

"Good, maybe now he'll shut up," Zac said. "Roni, you look beautiful too."

"Thank you, Zac," Roni said, smiling. "Here's Taylor's shirt." Zac took the shirt. "Ging, come on, Kris is asking for you."

"All right," Ginger said. "See you in a bit, honey." Ginger left with Roni and Taylor walked back into the room.

"Here you go, you moron," Zac said, handing Taylor his shirt. Taylor sneered at him. "Ginger says Kris looks gorgeous."

"Does she?" Taylor asked, a smile finding its way onto his face. Kris still hadn't told him she was pregnant. Zac wanted to be around when she said it, although he was sure she was going to do it while they were alone. "Good." Taylor put on his shirt, vest, and jacket. He picked up his bow tie and glanced back at Zac. "Um"

"Here," Zac said, walking over. He tied Taylor's bow tie for him. Taylor watched in the mirror.

"Where'd you learn to do that?" Taylor asked. Zac hesitated.

"Gwen."

"Oh."

"Well, there you go," Zac said. He took a step back. "You look snazzy."

"Snazzy, eh? Well, I don't want to overdo it or anything." Zac smiled. "Where the hell is Ike?"

"I don't know. He's probably with Roni."

"Yeahyou can separate the two of them. It's worse than Kris and I." Taylor looked at the time. "Well, ten minutes. Do you think Kris is going to be on time?"

"No."

"Yeah, neither do I." Zac buttoned up his shirt and tied his bow tie. Isaac walked in and looked at his brothers.

"Are you ready?" he asked. Taylor nodded. "Good. They're ready for you." Taylor nodded again. He took a breath and walked towards the door.

"Uh, Taylor," Zac said, scratching his head. Taylor turned around.

"What?"

"You may want to put your shoes on." Taylor looked down and he was still in his socks. His face went white. "You do have your shoesdon't you?"

"No!" he said. The fear was dripping from his voice. "What am I supposed to do? I can't get married without shoes!"

"Look, Taylor, take my shoes," Zac said.

"Then what are you going to wear?"

"I'll wear my sneakers. It's not important that I have shoes. It's important that you do." Taylor sat down next to Zac on the bed, his hands in his hair. Zac took off his shoes and Taylor put them on. Taylor stood up.

"Zac, are your feet bigger than mine?" Taylor asked.

"You bet they are," Zac said, smiling. Taylor gave him a look. "They'll have to do. Now where are my sneakers?" Zac looked around. "Oh, wait, I got dressed in my room."

"We don't exactly have time to run back upstairs," Isaac said. "You can't really tell anyway. Let's go." Zac felt completely uncomfortable walking out of the preparation room without his shoes on.

"Do I look all right?" Taylor asked, stopping in front of Zac. He was the only one who would be out at the head of the room before the processional. Although Zac was the best man, he would be walking with Ginger down the aisle.

"Yes, Taylor."

"You're just saying that."

"Taylor, I'm not a girl. I don't notice that sort of thing. You make me wonder sometimes." Taylor gave him a look. "You're fine. Go." Zac gave Taylor a smile and patted him on the back as he went into the hall. All of the bridesmaids lined up in front of him and Ginger stepped to his side. "Hi beautiful."

"Hey baby," Ginger said. She gave him a short kiss. "Where are your shoes?"

"Ike said nobody would notice."

"It's just because I was checking you out," Ginger said. "What happened?"

"Taylor forgot his shoes and we didn't find out until five minutes ago. I figured it was more important for him to have shoes. I was going to wear my sneakers but they're upstairs and we just didn't have time to get them."

"That was a very good thing you did, baby," she said. "Look." She lifted up the hem of her dress and stuck out her foot. She was barefoot. Zac smiled. "Their shoes must have been in the same bag."

"Well, this is turning into a backwater ceremony, isn't it?" Zac asked. The music began and the people in front of Zac and Ginger began to walk. Ginger took Zac's arm, holding her bouquet in her other hand, and put a Hollywood smile on her face as the two of them walked down the aisle together. "Next time it's going to be us," he whispered.

"I know." At the head of the aisle, Zac kissed Ginger and separated from her. He stepped next to Taylor, who gave him a smile. The string quartet changed from the entrance music to the traditional wedding march, and Zac looked up. Kris, led by her father, began to walk down the aisle.

"Aww, man, look at her," Zac said. Kris had on an off-the-shoulder white dress, low in the front with a tight bustier, cut into a princess style. As she walked Zac could see that her shoes were indeed light blue. She had a big smile peeking from underneath her veil and she looked absolutely breathtaking. Zac looked at Taylor and smiled to see his big brother's eyes glossy with tears. He smiled.

"I know," Taylor whispered to Zac. "Look at her." At that point Zac was sure that Taylor had found the person he was going to spend the rest of his life with.

The reception immediately followed the ceremony in the banquet hall in the hotel. The guests went in first while the bridal party waited outside to be announced. Kris took this time to talk to Taylor privately. Ginger and Zac watched, slightly amused, as Kris kissed Taylor and went down the hallway so they could be alone and Kris could tell him. They were far enough away that nobody could hear them, although Zac and Ginger could still see them.

"Did she tell him yet?" Ginger asked, trying her best not to stare, although it was very obvious that she was.

"I don't think so. He hasn't reacted yet."

"How do you think he's going to react?" Ginger asked. Zac shrugged. "Oh, that ceremony was so beautiful, Zac. I don't think I've cried so much in my life." Zac smiled. Down the hall, Taylor suddenly kissed Kris. "Oh, I think she told him. Awwhe didn't freak out."

"I think he's freaked out enough today. 'My shirt's wrinkled! I don't have any shoes! Kris is going to be late!' " Ginger smiled.

"She wasn't late."

"I was impressed. Oh, here they come. Act innocent." It didn't work, however, because as soon as Taylor and Kris were in speaking range they knew.

"Oh, come on, like we didn't see you staring," Taylor said. "Geez, I thought I was going to have a nice, private moment with my wife and you two were watching."

"How private can it be in a big hallway?" Zac asked.

"So?" Ginger pressed.

"Yeah, I told him," Kris said, looking up at Taylor. "He took it surprisingly well."

"Yeah" Taylor said. "Hey, wait, you guys knew?"

"Well Kris told me, because I was with her when she took the test and everything," Ginger said. "And I told Zac. We didn't want to say anything because she wanted to tell you and she wanted everything to be perfect." Taylor eyed Zac.

"What?" Zac asked.

"Maybe I should hit you. You knew and you didn't tell me."

"I was told not to tell you!" Zac said. "Kris wanted toOhhhh." Zac tapped his temple. "I get it now."

"What?" Ginger asked.

"After you told me about Jenny," Zac explained, "I ran over to their room and hit Taylor because he never told me about her. I told you about that." Ginger nodded. "Yeah, but that's different, Taylor. Not telling you Kris is pregnant for a couple of weeks is completely different from not telling me I have a six-month-old daughter."

"Are we ready to go in now?" the DJ asked, interrupting. It was good timing.

"Sure," Kris said. After getting lined up again, Ginger turned to Kris. "What?"

"How are we sitting at the head table?" Ginger asked. "Are we sitting in couples or are we sitting bridesmaids on one side and groomsmen on the other?"

"Does it really matter?"

"Well, yeah," Ginger said.

"Do bridesmaids on one side," Kris said. "It just looks nicer that way." Ginger told the first couple the change of plans and soon the DJ began to announce everyone. Ginger walked in with Zac and they each stood behind their chairs at the head table, waiting for Kris and Taylor to be announced.

"And now ladies and gentlemen, the stars of the evening and the reason you're all here, it is my honor to introduce to you Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Hanson!" Kris and Taylor walked in and Ginger got a little teary eyed again. When they arrived at the head table, everyone sat down.

"Hey Kris," Ginger said. Zac looked over Taylor to Kris and Ginger. "You know, since you told Taylor you were pregnant and all, I think now would be a good time to tell you that I'm pregnant."

"You are?" Kris asked, her eyes widening. "Oh my God!" She gave Ginger a hug. "Oh, honey, that's so wonderful. But don't tell anyone else because today is my day!"

"I won't," Ginger said. "I promise." Kris turned to Taylor.

"Isn't that exciting, Taylor? Zac and Ginger are going to have a baby too!"

"I already knew," Taylor said. Kris turned to Ginger who was looking at Zac.

"Zac! You bastard!" Ginger said. "You weren't supposed to tell anybody!"

"It slipped," Zac said, shrugging. "I'm sorry."

"Anyway," Kris said, "Where's dinner? I'm starving."

"Me too," Ginger agreed. As Ginger spoke, the caterers began to file out with dinner for everybody. Kris and Taylor got theirs first, followed by the rest of the bridal party. Before Zac dove into his meal, like Kris and Ginger were doing, he sat back and looked around the room. There were a lot of people there. About ninety-five percent of the people Taylor and Kris invited showed up, which surprised Zac. It was usually less than that. At the first tables were the immediate family; Zac could see his parents sitting with Kris's parents. Diana had Jenny in her lap. He looked over close and distant family, and people he didn't know from Kris's side, and smile came over his face. His eyes drifted back to the head table, where he looked past Taylor and Kris and locked eyes with Ginger. She mouthed an "I love you" and returned to her food. Before he knew it this was going to be his wedding, and he couldn't wait.
