It’s Christmas, ten months after I had kicked Zac out of the house, and he’s still living with his parents.
Sometime in mid March, Zac got two boxes in the mail. When he opened them, it was all his stuff he had over at my house. He had cried that day, totally devastated. That was a huge sign that he wasn’t going to be coming back.
Well, it’s not totally Christmas, it’s two days before. Zac got a letter in the mail, with no return address. He went up to his room and opened it, having strange feelings about it.
Inside was a diamond ring, and a note. Zac opened the note, recognizing the ring automatically. I won’t be needing this anymore. I’m going out with Bryan now and he’s going to get me a ring for Christmas.
So Zac’s heart was officially crushed now. The last thing he wanted for Christmas was a letter implying he wasn’t wanted anymore, and someone else was. So he took the ring and ran it across his fingers, studying it.
He stared at the inscription. For the girl who has everything, I bring you love. Zac knew I always loved that song, mostly because it related to me a lot.
Diana knocked and walked in. She saw Zac, hugging his knees to his chest and in one hand fiddling a diamond ring.
"What’s that?" He looked up and showed her the ring.
"I got it for Ginger last Christmas. She told me she wouldn’t be needing it anymore."
"That’s a horrible thing to do."
"And now she’s going out with her best friend in which she had informed me many times that he was ‘too much of a brother to be boyfriend material’. Well you can just say screw that."
Diana sat down on the bed next to her son, and put an arm around his shoulders. "Zac, if she could do this to you then I seriously think she wasn’t worth it."
"I do."
"Why?"
"I’m not sure. I could just tell that she was someone I could remember for a long time."
"Well, I understand. She was your first big love."
"Yeah."
