Chapter Seven

It’s Christmas, ten months after I had kicked Zac out of the house, and he’s still living with his parents.

Sometime in mid March, Zac got two boxes in the mail. When he opened them, it was all his stuff he had over at my house. He had cried that day, totally devastated. That was a huge sign that he wasn’t going to be coming back.

Well, it’s not totally Christmas, it’s two days before. Zac got a letter in the mail, with no return address. He went up to his room and opened it, having strange feelings about it.

Inside was a diamond ring, and a note. Zac opened the note, recognizing the ring automatically. I won’t be needing this anymore. I’m going out with Bryan now and he’s going to get me a ring for Christmas.

So Zac’s heart was officially crushed now. The last thing he wanted for Christmas was a letter implying he wasn’t wanted anymore, and someone else was. So he took the ring and ran it across his fingers, studying it.

He stared at the inscription. For the girl who has everything, I bring you love. Zac knew I always loved that song, mostly because it related to me a lot.

Diana knocked and walked in. She saw Zac, hugging his knees to his chest and in one hand fiddling a diamond ring.

"What’s that?" He looked up and showed her the ring.

"I got it for Ginger last Christmas. She told me she wouldn’t be needing it anymore."

"That’s a horrible thing to do."

"And now she’s going out with her best friend in which she had informed me many times that he was ‘too much of a brother to be boyfriend material’. Well you can just say screw that."

Diana sat down on the bed next to her son, and put an arm around his shoulders. "Zac, if she could do this to you then I seriously think she wasn’t worth it."

"I do."

"Why?"

"I’m not sure. I could just tell that she was someone I could remember for a long time."

"Well, I understand. She was your first big love."

"Yeah."

Christmas rolled around in two days. It didn’t seem all that wonderful, Zac had been sulking. "Zac, Tina’s coming over. You haven’t seen her in a while, go brush your hair," Diana said, passing through the room.

Tina.

That was someone Zac hadn’t seen since he’d been back. What a rude best friend he was, been back ten months and not even going over to say hi. Go over and give a hug and tell her I’m back and I’m crushed.

He ran upstairs and changed his clothes into something not ragged. He brushed his hair and made sure he looked alright. When he was done getting ready and made sure he had everything he needed, he went downstairs right when the doorbell rang.

Diana opened it and in walked Tina. Blond hair, blue eyes. Tall and thin, nothing like Zac had remembered. The last time he saw her she was short and pudgy, undeveloped and young.

She was beautiful.

"Hi Zac!" she said, running over and giving him a hug. He hugged her back.

"Hi! You’ve changed." She blushed, like she always did.

"So have you," her sweet voice said. Zac smiled, looking around suddenly.

"I got you something," he told her.

"Well make me feel bad, I didn’t get you anything," she joked, smiling. She had one of those movie star smiles. Zac knew as he handed her a small velvet box, what he had been avoiding for a while now.

She opened it and inside was a diamond with the inscription, For the girl who has everything, I bring you love.
