The Thrill Of The Hunt!

I'm going hunting this morning, but this
is a special hunt. One that taxes you emotionally
and physically. A hunt that leaves you
tired at the end of the day, but excited!

There are hundreds of us waiting for the
time to begin. It is early, still, and my
coffee is keeping my hands warm.
My backpack is at my side, waiting,
with water and supplies.

The time arrives.
I can feel my heart accelerate.
It pounds so loud in my ears!
My hands are starting to sweat.
Will today be a good one?
Will I come home satisfied?
I push my doubts far back in my mind.
I will not give in to fear!

I start off!
I make a mental plan in my head.
Where to check first. Where to stop and rest.
And I check my watch. If I am going to do this,
I need to do this before the heat of the day
wears me out.

I pick a quiet trail to the left.
My shoes are specially made to to absorb all
of the shock of the day. The endless walking!
My clothes are made of cotton, to breathe
easier, and take the heat.

I slow down, look left, and something catches
my eye. I slowly creep over, ever so quietly,
so as not to draw attention.
It is huge!

I can't believe my luck!!
You hardly see them this big anymore!
I slowly look around. Some of the other
hunters are coming up behind me.
I must act quickly!

I slowly slip off my backpack.
I unzip it and reach in and grab my water.
"One sip. That will settle my nerves", I tell myself.
I put the water back and slowly stand up.
I must do it!! I must be victorious!!

I lean in, slowly look right at him,
making sure I have his attention.
"Excuse me, sir? How much do you want for
the 6 foot Elvis painting on velvet?"
" Oh really? Well, you don't want to have to drag
this back home now, do you?"

"How about I give you half for the Elvis,
and you can throw in those 3 macrame
plant hangers. After all, who wants macrame
hangers and a huge Elvis?"
"Yes, I have cash. Yes, I have a car."

"It has been a pleasure doing business
with you. No, I don't need a tea set, but the
day is still young. I may be back.
Thank you!"

Suddenly, I hear a cry of defeat
from behind me. Others had their eyes
on my prize, but I bagged it first!
I was victorious!!

But wait! The day is still young, and
I still have the rest of the Flea Market
to go through. Onward I push, with
every fiber of my being.
Yes, today has been a great day!

(Now, what did you think I was talking about, eh?)
