| Welcome to Hookdon Boxers. I am Jo Hammond and I was bred, born and raised right here in Central Alberta. I've had dogs all my life, but in 1992, I decided to fulfill a life long dream and purchased my first Boxer, Heimar's Lady Tig. I trained Tig in Obedience and trialled her for a few years, but being under scutiny wasn't her cup of tea. I bred her to a half English mahogany red fawn male, NuByu's Punchinello Prism. This breeding produced my soulmate, Tig's Racy Lacy C.D. Lacy was the victim of a little known parasite called Neospora caninum which left her partially paralyzed in one hind leg. That never stopped her from being the best Obedience partner and best friend a woman could ever ask for. Lacy was only expected to live for about 4-5 years due to the damage done by the parasite, but she lived healthy and happy until I helped her to the Rainbow bridge, just shy of her 8th birthday. Before I said goodbye to her though, I spent 4 1/2 years searching for a new girl, my first Conformation show dog. I turned down 132 puppies in my search and learned a whole pile about the breed, health issues, training, temperaments and pedigrees before I found my new love, Gracie She was born at Oak Knoll kennel in Indiana. I brought her to Canada and named her Oak Knoll's Easy Grace. Gracie was the foundation bitch for my kennel, now known as Hookdon Boxers. She earned her Canadian championship, her Canadian Canine Good Citizen, began competing in Obedience and showed me how well she could produce in the whelping box. She was a very sweet little girl and a joy to train, show and live with. I now hope that she will continue to live on through her sons & daughters here at Hookdon Boxers. |
