A LUMP OF COAL
When i was knee-high to a pile o' feces i had a recurring nightmare that was --and still is --unique among all of the subconscious renderings i've had over the years.
Its setting is a simple one: a pitch black atmosphere devoid of sound and space.i float amidst this darkness without the slightest bit of hesitation or fear; Then all of a sudden a red speck about the size of pin-point is visible on the horizon. It gradually intensifies in both size and heat;the tranquile silence replaced by screams of a massive amout of  people  and even more frightening, the raging growls  of a fire burning at full nil;i gasp for air,as the pressure of the "speck(now about the size of chunk of coal)" was  causing my lungs to cave in on it self...then i awake terrified.

That dream repeated itself about 6 times or so, from preschool to the 10th grade. The funny part is that on the last 2 occurances i was awake--or more precisely--daydreaming.In 4th grade  i stared at the kitcken stove(it was off) while i tended to my homework. i  did not "see" the fiery speck, but felt the intense heat and a hint of the awful crackling of flesh and bone that was present in the dreams. 5 years past  without hint or worry until i sat one night to watch TV;wearing the usual vacant expression reserved for old dogs and tribal politicans. As the infomercials lost their luster i switched the TV off and was fixing to walk to my room;then, in the blank  television screen,a red light seemed to grasp my half-shut eyes and peeled the eye-lids from my face,i stood gatemouthed...in awe...more frightened of the fact that i was seeing this visual anomoly in a space free of electrical power, not to mention rational explanation.
In contrast to the previous experiences ,i saw the intense illlumination rather than feeling/hearing its presence.

Was it a dream of birth or death? Or both
?
