| 11.29.03 THe first attempt at the flyer Art was ineffective...only 4-5 hits generated from the 30 or so i placed at various spots in the area, 2 in window rock, 28 in gallup NM...I'm doing that for 2 reasons, to satirize a Hardcore Christian cult that floods the poster boards with their own filthy propaganda and I have nowhere to show my work, which frustrates me to no end...especially when the token native artists who say nothing but what what Established Commerce wants to hear...it's sickening...degrading...and profitable. There is a little clique of Art Geeks/wannabe yuppies in Gallup, they hide in a Coffee Shop(is that cliche enough foya?) and give each other handjobs at the art shows that they host every month...I attended a few, and It was laughable...so trite was their work that I was appalled at their asking prices...anyway, I was tempted to approach their lair for a possible exhibition, but decided not to cos of their snobbery...but at the same time, I'd like to show 'em a thing or two about a thing or two...oh well. I'm still gonna post the next flier as soon as it is ready...i can't give up...not just yet. Never before have I felt so Alone...it is a good thing. Well, there is the Squire, but he is keeping watch in Gamerco...awaiting the Messiah, think I'll offer him a cup of coffee. 1.12.04 CE Holidays are over...thank God...now for affection that is sincere and unsolicited...the cold nights are finally bearable...no longer will they remind me of what could've been but what Should Be. i AM my best audience. Recording with the comrades...getting new pickups for my guitar...it doesn't have a name, in fact i don't know any guitar player who has named his/her guitar...i think it's a myth for fogies and fogertys...if i had to name it (with a bayonet at my loins) i'd name it----* 2.19.04 CE I've been busy at work...Rackin' up the overtime hours has its merits...you know life is good when sleep deprivation is the least of worries...but my work in progress sits patiently, awaiting my return...On a bum note, the Squire has been incarcerated for doing what he does best...i feel frustrated/helpless with his actions/levied subsequential consequence but its the Gallup Life y'know? Gamerco loses little sleep over the few souls who actually give a damn in their Damned town...for who will now man the multi-plex mobile home awaiting the Messiah? New pickups in the guitar. It sounds immaculate. Just ordered a SOVTEK fuzz pedal yesterday;to enhance my musical tirades. The rest of the band(or JOE and Almo) now have jobs, working with yours truly...Custodial Musketeers...scrubbing the head is our preferred science. I actually have 2 days off, so i'll try to add more art ASAP. i need a new guestbook. 2.25.04 CE As mentioned on the index page, we've got a performance scheduled for early march...along with a couple o' colleauges...clarifications pending...one thing is certain, we're in for a bout of public humiliation. Bought a slap-echo effects pedal for my guitar...it sounds "perti-ful"...also purchased a 12 string acoustic for $110! Kicked out the jams with Almo and Joe last Saturday, inspired by cider and lager...thought we were Sonic Youth. 4.28.04 CE the gig in tuba a month back got cancelled...actually , relocated...but we couldn't make it so: it was cancelled. We've been working like dogs, as usual--trying to squeeze in jam sessions with other little crumpets of what makes life what it is. BUT, good news! We are playing this saturday(may 1st,no less!) at el morro theater in gallup, nuevo mehico, home of the hapless fo-tee...i made the flier and made the rounds around the town, posting the "advertisement" alongside country dances and headbanging fiascos; i was hoping to catch a glimpse at the always interesting propaganda from the Fence Lake Hardcore Fundamentalist sect, but i guess they too are thinking of new material, kinda hard for them cos there is only so much intolerance one can vent. Well, 3 days til our performance...hope we stay in tune. 5.10.04 CE The may 1st shin-dig was a scenario our band has found ourselves many times...only this time, there were salvagable moments instead of extended periods of morosity. Yeah, we fucked up...fucked up, got ambushed, zipped in...you know what that spells(punk rawk reference for the indoctrinated)? BUT, in the end, our heroes lived to play again. Here's a summary: i was nervous; we did not practise in the 3 days leading to the show; soundcheck started late(no time to warm up); started off our set to a reception of death like silence; i got more nervous, fucked up parts of songs that i usually nail; Joe breaks string and is 6 string incapacitated(did i mention he plays left-handed?); i actually complete a couple of tunes on my 6 string, but silence still evident; got heckled by a friend of mine, he called me a fucker and a pussy, i retorted as any punk rock affecciando would; almost threw a curve ball at the audience(20 souls give or take a couple of lost ones), but guitar was out of tune which ruined the moment, played a mellow roots/folk number by a band i admire, butchered it beyond recognition...left stage to a few muffled giggles but mostly silence.Promoters were great and paid us more than we deserved. Played in Zuni this past weekend, for an aquaintance--he and his wife's 20th annv.--it was fun...loose vibe...no pressure...though i wish we had new songs...again we got paid more than we deserved. First time we've ever played in Zuni...a great place. I'm looking forward to the new material i'm gonna propose...that's the only set back that any band has; the need to be unified to a common purpose, even if others may be skeptical. |
