One hundred and eighty-two karts made their way Crawfordsville, IN on a hot humid night for an evening of racing. Team SRE had been heating up over the last couple of weeks and hoped to keep the winning ways going.
In Super Heavy, Smity finally got a decent draw and started the heat from the 4th spot. It was a good night to start up front, their were two red-flags and several yellows before the super heavy guys could get a green flag lap under their belts. The track was especially unforgiving in turn 4, as the well prepared track made for fast cornering speeds, but alot of drivers were unwilling to give quarter and sent many into the bails. After finally getting things going, Smitty immediately jumped to the lead and coasted to an easy win. In the feature, he battled the always tough Nick Welch for several laps before opening up 5 or 6 kart lead advantage. Smitty made it look easy, as his smooth consistent style kept him out front for his 3rd Feature Win of the year.
In Sr. Sportsman, Honk started at the tail of the field in the heat but drove through the pack to bring his Slack SP7 home in 4th. Encouraged by his run, Honk charged to 2nd in the feature behind the #91 kart of Jeff Lone. Trying a couple of different lines, Honk finally got around near the mid-point of the race and held off a late charge by the #39 kart to capture his 2nd consecutive Sr. Sportsman feature.
Honk started on the pole in the Heavy Heat #2 and used his SRE Power to lead flag to flag for another Heat win. The feature would not be so easy. Honk started on the outside of row 1 and followed the #91 through the first couple of laps. The top 6 karts battled two by two for most of the race, with Honk and Lone swapping the lead nearly every lap. Honk finally got some clean air and pulled out a 2 kart lead advantage and held on for another feature win, his fourth in a row overall!
Team SRE had the Slack SP7 chassis rollin' with a clean sweep of three classes for the night! |
