The 10 Biggest Mistakes Parents Make

When Hiring Entertainment For A

Birthday Party AND How To Avoid Them

The birthday party tips that are about to be revealed in this report will help you when you decide to make a decision on your birthday entertainment.

It is very, very rare for a professional entertainer to write this kind of report. Many other entertainers and party performers do NOT want you know this information. Please take the time to read these party tips carefully.

In fact, if you are, as I hope, very interested in making sure that your child's party is memorable and fun, then I urge you to get comfortable, ask not to be disturbed, and STUDY this report it IS that important! It reveals vital information that you NEED to know!

Dear birthday party parent,

ItÕs shocking but true. Every day, parents hire children entertainers that they should not be hiring. Performers and entertainment agencies sometimes exaggerate about their qualifications, charge you a LOT more than they should, end up turning your kid's birthday party into an embarrassing and lame event.

Organizing a birthday party can be a DIFFICULT and STRESSFUL job. There are so many details that must be attended to. But here is the undeniable truthÉ

THE OVERALL SUCCESS OF YOUR KID'S PARTY
HINGES ON YOU HIRING THE RIGHT ENTERTAINER

I realize that you might not believe that right now but think about it for a minute.

When is the last time you remembered going to a kid's party, (yours or another) and the party was a bust because there was no entertainment, or a performer who wasn't right for the party and the birthday mom was running around totally stressed out trying to figure out what to do with a dozen or more out of control kids?

Did the cake and/or decorations make the party memorable and successful?

When is the last time you attended a birthday party when the games alone made it successful?

Were you ever impressed by the invitations?

Probably never!

The entertainer is the ÒkeyÓ to a successful birthday party, but here's the problem...

Hire the wrong person and your kid's birthday will be a flop. Hire someone who shouldnÕt be in front of an audience, (not to mention a kids audience) and it is your reputation on the line. Overpay for an entertainer who delivers a sub-par performance and all eyes (your spouse and other parents) will be looking at you.

The party tips in this report are going to give you the inside scoop on what some party performers and entertainment agencies do to unsuspecting parents.

YouÕll be armed with the party tips knowledge you need so you won't be "taken" by these people.

In just a minute, I'm going to reveal what the 10 Biggest Mistakes are and how you can avoid them, but first let me answer a couple of questions that are probably on your mind:

Who Am I And Why Am I Revealing

This Party Tips Information?

I am Armando Vera, a full time professional entertainer and the ONLY ÒComedian For KidsÓ in the State of Florida. For the past 15 years my unique birthday show consisting of hilarious comedy, amazing magic, puppetry, storytelling and tons of audience participation has helped make over 3,000 birthday parties memorable, successful and fun.

IÕve performed at so many different birthday parties and accumulated enough party tips to know what makes a party truly special and what you need to avoid when booking entertainment for your kidÕs party.

IÕm revealing party tips and information that the birthday entertainment industry doesnÕt want you to know for two main reasons:

Reason #1: If you end up hiring a lousy entertainer this closes the field not only to me but other competent professionals. Odds are, if the person you hire stinks, you'll be very reluctant to hire a similar type of performer in the future.

Reason #2: I HATE to see performers deliver an unprofessional show and make parents look bad. It puts a back eye on my profession.

Okay, now that you know who I am and why I'm doing this, letÕs talk about the ÒThe 10 Biggest Mistakes Parents Make When Hiring Entertainment For A Birthday Party AND How To Avoid Them."

Big Mistake #1 :
A Squeaky-Clean Show

Is your entertainer going to do something inappropriate or give you a reason to regret your decision to hire them? Is your entertainer going to make your guests do silly things or direct mean spirited humor at them?

Believe it or not there is a clown in South Florida who tells suggestive jokes in his kidÕs birthday party show! I have no idea why? Perhaps heÕs trying to make the parents laugh. Believe me; they don't think it's funny. I don't imagine he's laughing either when they refuse to pay him after his show.

My programs are 100% clean and I guarantee that no one will be made to look foolish. In fact, during my birthday party show I make YOUR birthday child the center of attention and they real STAR of the show, they love it!

Big Mistake #2 :
Age-Appropriate Programs

Another important thing to consider is to make sure the show is age appropriate. What enthralls a three year old will probably bore a nine year old, so make sure your entertainer is experienced enough to recognize the difference.

If you have a selection of different ages attending the party, tell your entertainer. It is possible to perform a selection of age appropriate material that will ensure all of your guests have a fantastic time.

Big Mistake #3 :
ÊNot Enough Fun and Variety!

Too many magicians, clowns, face painters and other entertainers only want you to watch while they show off.

- Look at me! I'm making a child float in mid-air.

- Watch me for 5 minutes twisting a balloon!

- Wait for your turn! MeanwhileÉ look at me do a makeover on 10 other kids.

Boring!!!

The sort of person you want to hire is a true ENTERTAINER who can captivate an audience with their personality.

Big Mistake #4 :
Live Animals or Big Equipment

The fact is that children don't really care if the performer you hire is someone who brings a huge truck loaded with equipment or live animals, that could get all the kids sick (always ask for a vet's release) The only thing they really want is to have FUN!

Great entertainers like Steve Martin, Jay Leno or Jerry Seinfeld donÕt need tons of equipment. Why? Their personality is so strong; they only need a microphone and a glass of water to make you laugh until your stomach hurts.

When hiring a kidÕs entertainer the same formula applies. Less Equipment = Better Performer.

Make sure your entertainer's goal is to make the show as fun and entertaining as possible for the children AND adults.

BEWARE!

Many performers are so desperate for work that they will say anything to get hired. They will tell you that they do things that they don't, won't, or can't do. WeÕll be talking about how to spot out these phonies and avoid them like the plague in just a minute.

BIG MISTAKE #5 :
Waiting Until The Last Minute
To Book Entertainment

Sometimes parents contact me the week before an event. While sometimes I can accommodate them into my schedule quite often I'm unavailable.

Remember there are only 52 weekends a year and there are thousands of children out there celebrating birthdays, so don't run the risk of booking your entertainment too late.

As soon as you have digested the important information in this report get onto contacting your entertainer ASAP!

BIG MISTAKE #6 :

BASING YOUR DECISION

PRIMARILY ON PRICE

This is a BIG ONE!

Price is always a factor when hiring entertainment. However, some people place too much emphasis on price and not enough on the overall impact the entertainer will have on the event.

Is the highest priced entertainer automatically the best? No not necessarily. But it's safe to say that hiring the least expensive entertainer you can find is almost always a mistake. Many times if not most times you get what you pay for.

If your child were sick would you search out the cheapest doctor you could find?

Of course not.

The fact is that each performer is unique and, like in any other profession, there are entertainers who are great, some who are good, some mediocre, and some who should never be allowed on stage!

You need to base your decision on the performer who will best fulfill your needs and help you to achieve your desired outcomes.

Bottom line: Decide what your budget range is, check out a number of performers in that budget range, and choose the best person regardless of price.

If your budget is so small that you cannot find an excellent performer, DO NOT HIRE ANYONE. It is far, far better to have no entertainer than it is to hire someone who will spoil your event.

Save your money and wait until you can afford someone who will provide you with a great show and help you have a super successful party.

Generally speaking in the S.E. Florida birthday party market if you find a birthday party performer that offers more than 45 minutes for under $225 dollars that should put up a "red flag." Buyer beware!

BIG MISTAKE #7 :

HIRING A PART TIME ENTERTAINER

INSTEAD OF A FULLTIME PRO

Let me explain that there are a few part time entertainers who would do a great job for your kidÕs party. However in most cases the full time pros are much better.

Full time performers have to be good because entertaining at kidÕs parties is what they do for a living. If they don't do a great job, they'll be out of business and won't be able to put food on the table, pay the mortgage etc.

You can get lucky with a part timer, but do you really want the success of your child's birthday to depend on luck, when you can hire someone who does this for a living?

Bottom Line: DonÕt make the birthday party more stressful than it has to be. I urge you to strongly consider hiring a full time professional.

BIG MISTAKE #8 :
NO TESTIMONIALS OR REFERENCES

Testimonials are of the utmost importance when hiring any performer. In fact, they are of paramount importance. If a performer does not have a TON of great testimonials it means one of two things.

First, the performer is inexperienced and hasn't worked professionally long enough to get testimonials.

Or...

Second, the performer isn't very good and can't get any testimonials from his/her customers. In either case, this is a performer you probably donÕt want to hire.

Yes, testimonials are critical. In fact, I have an arsenal that I use in my marketing. What people say about a performer is infinitely more important than what a performer says about himself or herself.

The sad fact is that some entertainers make up their testimonials and totally lie about their credentials. As disgusting as this sound, it is unfortunately common practice.

Discovering the truth is very easy. A dead giveaway on bogus testimonials is the infamous Òinitials only" testimonial! IÕm sure youÕve seen this before; a glowing testimonial followed by just a personÕs initials, i.e. "J.P." or "R.D.", followed by a fake address.

Ask the performer to give you copies of some of the actual letters they received. (I have a whole file of them that I send to my prospects upon request). If the entertainer is using just initials or can't produce contact info, you've caught them!

Bottom Line: You should put a lot weight on performer's testimonials when making your decision. Just make sure you are dealing with someone who is honest and ethical.

BIG MISTAKE #9 :

NOT SENDING A DEPOSIT

Would you like to have the entertainer cancel on you the day before of the party?

How can you be sure the performer you hire will show up to the party if you donÕt send a deposit?

I know some performers who donÕt like to take deposits in case a Òhigher payingÓ show comes along (I know this is disturbing) This is another good reason why you shouldnÕt base you decision only on price.

A true professional will always require a deposit to hold the date and time you requested. Also make sure to get written confirmation from the performer that describes date, location, time and length of the show.

BIG MISTAKE #10 :

NOT GETTING A MONEY

BACK GUARANTEE

In most cases, you can avoid falling prey to a bad entertainer by insisting that they give you a 100% money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with their presentation.

This is the ultimate test as to whether someone really believes in what they are offering or if they are just full of hot air. If a performer really believes in the quality of their show, they shouldn't hesitate to guarantee it.

Bottom line: Some performers may argue that people will take advantage of them if they offer a guarantee. This is a bunch of lies. In the 15 years that I have offered a guarantee and over the thousands of performances, no one has EVER requested their money back. In fact many people have me back year after year.

If the performer youÕre considering for your party won't back up their presentation with a guarantee...WATCH OUT!

The 5 Things To Ask Any Kid's

Performer Before You Hire Them

1. Why should I hire you instead of any other entertainer?

Listen carefully to their answer. If they seem vague or unsure, then they probably arenÕt the best choice for your kid's party. You want someone who can confidently explain to you why you should hire them and how they can help you make your kid's party fun and memorable.

2. Do you have any references?

See Big Mistake #8 above

3. Some of the invited kid's parents might show up for the show. Are they going to be bored?

If you are expecting parents to attend the party, look for an entertainer who can entertain adults as well as kids. Some performers as long as they know a head of time, can adapt their performance so that it appeals to BOTH kids and adults.

4. Do you provide goody bags?

In this day and age, many party entertainers will supply the goody bags. Usually there is an additional cost to do this.

Most birthday parents love it when the entertainer provides the goody bags because it saves them the time and hassle of going to the party store to buy them.

Some entertainers (like myself) will even offer a limited number of free goody bags in their top party package. I buy the bags, toys etc. in bulk so I can offer them to parents at a great price, which saves them money. (Not to mention the hassle of going out and getting them at the party store).

5. Do you have a money back guarantee?

See BIG MISTAKE #10 above. Basically if they donÕt guarantee their show look elsewhere!
