Battle of the Bands Review By: Infant_Launcher ![]() The Night: January 23rd 2003 Where: OHHS Auditorium
As the long school day came to a close, we, the staff of Hometown Shenanigans, made our way to Pauls house to mess it up and fight amongst ourselves, but this was no ordinary Thursday. Tonight was the night of the long awaited Battle of the Bands, featuring the bands Enemy, Employee of the Month, and 4-40 No Catch.
The night was young, and we were full of piss and vinegar. When we got to our seats, we casually looked around for people we knew. Many familiar faces were there, and a lot of them were faces we didnt want to see. But soon we started to talk amongst ourselves, it was mainly about who was going to be the best. I was voting for 4-40 No Catch, Jungle Bunny was casting his hope with Enemy, and Son Pablo Renaldo & Mouthful of Grandma were looking forward to Employee of the Month. Soon it was time for the show. The first band on stage was Employee of the month, the band members included: Ty, Wes, and Ricky. The band started off with a well-done warm-up, aptly named Wayne because Wayne was in the room when it was written. Several more songs followed after Wayne. The songs were performed well, especially Thrift Shop and just an EMO Kid. The band did great and exceeded my expectations, this being the first time I ever heard them play. Next on stage was 4-40 No Catch, the band members: Danny, Chas, Bad Josh, and Good Josh. They started off with a very entertaining and unexpected entrance by Chas through the middle of the auditorium to the stage. After which they started their performance. While I dont have support of everyone on the staff, I thought Good Josh (the singer) was easily the best singer there that night. While the band performed fairly well, they were plagued by some equipment problems that no doubt hindered their performance a little. Their singer didnt get to sing each song though, which I will state, was a shame. While they did fairly well, I believe they need a little more time together to iron out the rough edges, and then Ill wager they will perform miles better. Im looking forward to the Talent Show to see how far they will have come in terms of quality. Next on stage was Enemy, whos members include Josh F, Kyle, Brandon, and Ricky (again). I must say that this band has a lot of potential. Brandon (the drummer) and Kyle (guitar) have a hell of a lot of talent. Though, in my personal opinion I dont really enjoy the singers (Josh F.) singing. But thats okay; the band did pretty damn well. Their music was all heavy metal, until the end when the singer started the last few songs on his acoustic guitar. By then my ass had long since fallen asleep, and I had to get going. So I got up, rubbed my ass until I could tell it was there again, gave it a little scratch, and left. The show was easily worth the 3 dollars it cost to get in, and kudos to all of the Bands for having the guts to get on stage and put on a hell of a show for everyone. Shame on anyone who chose to sit at home and waste his or her time on homework. Now I have put together an award system for the show.
