Stolen From Lenin, But What Is To Be Done?
My mum mentioned really casually the other day that since I was put on this Earth to make a difference, it was my responsibility, and not hers, to do something about a social injustice she has recently discovered. So, do we live with a predetermined notion that others are responsibile for tackling the things we believe out of our grasp?

Now, I'd be lying if I said she intended all of that in her comment, but it got me thinking. And she has a point. Though we as Canadians praise Medicare more than ourselves as human beings, there has recently appeared to me a giant flaw that has managed to alienate no doubt over half of the population of rouhgly 33 million Canadians.

That issue? Health Care is made available for all, thats true. However, people seeing a doctor tend to require medication of one form or another, which falls outside the reign of the public sphere. So, those with jobs offering benefits are covered for medication, those on province recognized official welfare are covered, yet the millions of working Canadian citizens in 'part-time' jobs who are working without the benefits of benefits get nothing. Left to cover their own hides, while others are fortunate enough to return to the doctor for a renewed dosage according to their own free will, and not their wallet.

In a free country such as Canada, based upon the ideals of Peace, Order, and Good Government, (or POGG as I remembered it for my Political Science exam) the benefits that many Canadians receive are intended for all Canadians, not those living in circumstances condusive to medicinal advantages.

The Question of the Day becomes:

Should the government have the right to provide medical services and medication for some, but not all Canadians, depending on thier economic status?

                           OR

Should all medication be privatized to ensure at least an equitable distribution of the product?
