Parrots are highly intelligent creatures. The saying, "bird brain" should be taken as a compliment. Their social needs are VERY demanding, and serious psycological problems can give rise if they are denied their right to daily playtime outside the cage for mental stimulation.
Birds are messy and they are usually loud. This is another thing to consider. You can't train a bird to "shut up" and you cannot train it to be less messy.
