Pet Emergency
Vomiting
Before you treat vomiting, consider other accompanying symptoms. Is the vomiting caused by poison? Is it the result of a "garbage party"? Is there blood in the vomit? Is the animal in pain or depressed? What color is the vomit? Is what is coming up really vomit or is it phlegm? Has your pet eaten too much or too fast?
Most cases of vomiting are rarely serious. The first thing to do is remove all food and water. Do not give water for about 6 hours.
If vomiting continues, call your vet. If it stops, offer small serving of water over the next few hours. If vomiting diesn't begin again during this period, gradually increase the amount of water you offer. Don't give your pet food for 24 hours.
If after a day of water, your pet's OK, give it a small amount of the diet in
Diarrhea section. If pet is OK, slowly increase the quantity at mealtimes until you reach the amount suggested. Then back to a normal diet.
