Ear Injuries
Cats' and dogs' ear flaps are vulnerable spots. It is common for the flaps to be wounded. large cuts may need stitches, which must be done by a vet. They are usually left in for 10 days or more.
Smaller cuts, especially on the edge of the ear flap, should be cleaned and dressed with anibacterial ointment or Betadine. Once cared for, they can generally be left to heal on their own. One problem with ear injuries is that healing is slow.
The irritation of the injury brings about a great deal of ear shaking and this motion causes the bleeding to start again.
