Themors, twitching, spasms and drooling are most common, but seizures can involve a vacant stare, stiffening of the body, vomiting, a temporary lack of breathing or loss of consciousness. Involuntary urination often occurs. Convulsions have many causes. Is the pet on any medicationor has it been vaccinated recently? Is it possible that it has eaten, inhaled or in any way been exposed to poison? Have any of its sisters or brothers or its parents ever had seizures? Have there been recent changes in its personality, its eating, sleeping or elimination habits? Has it been in contact with any unknown animals? What do you do if your pet is having a convultion? There's not much you can do other then making certain it can't harm itself or others. If necessary, wrap the pet loosly in a blanket, but do not restrain. Do not muzzle or put anything between its teeth. Seizures don't last long, perhaps 1-4 minutes. If the seizure continues for more than 5 minutes, call your vet. Otherwise, just leave your pet along. make an appointment with the vet and bring along the answers to above questions. |
