| Dicky In School Source : MTV Channel / MTV Asia Date : November 8, 1997 Interview Location : Dicky's primary school Interview: Dicky: Hi! This is my primary school "De Xin Primary." Everyday, I climb to school through the fence at the side gate. Turns around. A group of girls scream and started hiding. Dicky: Sorry, those are my Hong KOng fans. Dicky brings the camera man into th school. Sees a boy with a football, asks him if he is studying in school. Boy replies "Yes." Dicky asks boy to pronounce his own name in Chinese. Dicky made the boy so shy that when Dicky streched out his hand to shake hands with the boy, the boy refused. Dicky: Now adays......the young doesn't give any respect to their elders. Walks off in a "huff," smiling. Goes to the hopsotch / tew faye / tiao fei ji. Dicky: Last time, we used to play this game, now I find it meaningless!? Goes to pillars. Dicky: During the holidays, I often come back to the school to play in the classrooms. At that time, all classroom doors would be locked. Then how do I climb in? First, I climb up the pillar then onto the ledge of the windows, then into the classroom. Goes to the stairs, up the classrooms. Dicky touches the "stairs handle" lovingly. I think the school has a history of 70-80 years. All these years, so many people have touched this handle. I know of quite a number of artist who are in the show business who are also from this school -- Eric Tsang, Liang Han Wen, Bruce Lee.. Goes to windows by the stairs. Dicky: This is the place I hate most. Everytime when I was caught eating in class or when I handed up my homework late, I would be punished by standing here! But now, haaa..hee, I need fear not this anymore! Goes to the Art Board. (besides windows) Dicky: This is where my beautiful memories are. Almost all my art works have been pasted up here, all except...my face. I love this board. Kisses the board. Goes to the short wall outside the classroom. Dicky: If I happen to stand here any day after school, that means I am being punished by my teacher to stay back in school. My mother would be called up to go to the school to see my teacher. At the slope outside the school, my mother would meet my teacher. My teacher would then report all my "bad deeds" to my mother and my heart beat would increase and I would get very nervouse. But now, heeee (laughs in an evil tone), no more fear! Goes to the classroom. Switches the fan on and off, with a "bai chi" look on his face. Dicky: I always love the sound of the fan switches, I like switching it on and off, this resulted in my teacher scolding me everytime. Touches tables and chairs. Dicky: How cute they are! I think these chairs have never been changed before...During lessons when it is very boring, I like to use my pen to vandalise on the table, drawing or trying to poke my pen into the hard surface of my table. Takes out a textbook and bag from the Principal. Dicky: Let me read you a passage called "White Clouds." Reads in Cantonese and in Chinese. Question: What impression did you give to your teacher? Dicky: Mmm..they take good care of me. Mmmmmmmmmm...you see, there were not many pupils that were handsome in the class, really I am telling the truth. (Laughs) Never, heard a singer talk like this right? The reason that my teacher like me is quite pecuilar. They like me because of my sweaters. My teacher would ask me where did I buy my beautiful sweater from, I would tell them that my mother knitted it for me. When I go home and tell my mother that, she would get very excited and that gave her the strength to knit more beautiful sweaters for me. Subtitle : Got into teacher's good books, by wearing sweaters knitted by his mother Goes to the blackboard. Draws a cartoon character, Tie Jia Wan Neng Xia. Finishes and signs off. Takes a step back to take a good look. Dicky: Oh...not good enough. I "deproved." Goes to garden. Talks about Secondary school (high school) Dicky: When we were in Secondary 1, we thought we are grown up. But after that one year, we felt that we were still very "small," and throughout Secondary 1 to Secondary 4, all we thought of was play and tests, results.. Question: Did you ever get a demerit point? Dicky: There was once I got a demerit point. You see, whenever there were lessons by a certain boring teacher, I would talk to my friends or sleep, if not, I would raise up my hand and say that I want to go to the toilet. And to go to the toilet longer, I would say I want to move my bowels. Because I do this practically everytime, one day the teacher asked me, "Why are you school funny? Everytime during my lesson you would go to the toilet. Why is it that everyday you are so "punctual" at it?" I answered very frankly, "I go to the toilet to sit because there are no teachers there to watch me." The teacher was so angry that he gave me one demerit point. |
