| Herbal Salt Scrub |
| Salt Scrubs are great for exfoliating your skin. They should be used once a week.. Too much of a good thing is not good for your skin. DO NOT Use near the eye area or on mucus membranes! Supplies Needed Base Oil of your choice Essential Oil Lavender Flowers Rosemary Leaves Peppermint Leaves Wide Mouth decorative jar Ebson Salt or Finely ground Sea Salt Or Even plain table salt will work Scoop or spoon Grinder Assemble all your ingredients. I find it much more enjoyable if I do not have to run around the house looking for this and that. 1/2 cup of salt 1/4 to 1/2 cup of oil 4 to 6 drops of lavender and rosemary essential oil 2 drops peppermint essential oil Lavender Flowers ground fine Peppermint leaves ground fine Rosemary leaves (remove all stems) ground fine In a glass, metal or enamel bowl add 1/2 cup of your salt of choice. You may mix and match your salts in this recipe. These recipes are very forgiving so don't feel like you can't make it because you do not have the exact amounts of ingredients listed. Measure your oil. Start with about 1/4 a cup of your choice of oil, again you may mix and match your oils. Different oils do different things for your skin. If you are extremely dry during the winter months use Almond oil or Avocado oil. These two oils are very moisturizing. If your skin is not extremely dry and you just want smooth silky skin after your bath use Olive oil. Pour your oil into the bowl with the salt and mix till the oil is fully incorporated into the salt. Add your finely ground herbs. Mix. Does it look too dry?? Add some more oil....Just a few drops at a time. You want a nice even amount of oil and salt so that when you scoop your Salt Scrub out of your container the oil doesn't drip all over the place. When the salt, oil and herbs are of the consistency that you want add your lavender, rosemary and peppermint essential oils. Quick tip>>>> Peppermint can be irritating to some people so go easy on the peppermint. If you know that your skin can handle it you can add more. Always go easy when adding your essential oils. The amounts in this recipe may be fine for me but you may think one scent is too overpowering. So start with one or two drops and then take a sniff. You may want more of a lavender scent with an undertone of rosemary and peppermint. That is fine ! Adjust the recipe to your own likes. When your done mixing in your scent you may pour your Scrub into a pretty widemouth jar. I like to use the small half pint mason jars. The opening is just right.. Or you may use whatever pretty jar you have on hand as long as there is a lid. Use your scoop or spoon to remove the amount of scrub you will use during your shower or bath. Because we are making a natural bath product there are no additives or preservatives to prevent bacteria from forming so care must be taken as to not to introduce any bacteria into your container of Salt Scrub. Your Scrub will last about a month on a counter or indefinitely in the refrigerator. ENJOY!! |
