The Forgotten: Helping The Less Fortunate

There are a lot of things you can do to help the homeless, that will only take minutes to do. Others may take hours, and some may even take days. It is up to you what kind of commitment you would like to make. Below are a few ideas. :)
1. The most obvious: Donate to a charity. There are many charities that need monetary help, both local and country-wide. To find the right charity for you, visit this site. I'd stray clear from the United Way, though, after hearing about the money donated to the September 11 victims. You have to trust your organization. That's the main thing. Ask for extra information if you need to. 2. Volunteer at a local shelter or soup kitchen. To find a local organization, look under "social services" in your phone book. If you'd like to know what it's like working at a soup kitchen, click here. 3. Volunteer for or donate to Habitat for Humanity. It provides low-cost housing to families and other individuals. If you're into building, this is for you. 4. Educate people on homelessness. Give them a link to this site, or another site, or perhaps even give them a book to help them learn more about this issue. 5. Speak to homeless people. Let them know that people do care about them by holding a conversation. For more ideas, visit 54 Ways You Can Help the Homeless
