| What is currently being done to help the homeless? |
| Right now, there are quite a few things being done that benefit the homeless in some way. Some of them are only for a certain city, and usually those will be found in my news section. Others benefit the entire country. Here are a few. HUD (Housing and Urban Development) does more than just provide funding for shelters and housing for the poor, but also funds substance abuse programs, job training, and the like. In some areas, the government often may pay the rent, or pay a high percentage of the rent for people facing evictions. Health Care for the Homeless... well, they provide health care for the homeless, which is something that is very needed. Their organization spans many cities in the United States. Check out their site if you'd like more information on what they do. Other organizations and people provide shelters and rehabilitation for the homeless. Many individual people actually start shelters for their area. In one city, a sheriff was able to get the ball rolling (for information on that, check my news section). It's not hopeless, that's for sure. |
