Restoring
existing Relationships
and bringing home those who are presently
homeless
Steave Eberlein
Field Environmental Officer
HUD –

Dear Mr. Eberlein,
I am a Lobbyist on Homeless Issues and
saw you are responsible for the Emergency Shelter Grant for 2004. I see there are seven applications for grant
monies for
I am promoting the idea of family as a resource for those
who are presently homeless. I am also hopeful to encourage service providers,
such as Social Agencies and homeless missions, to ask their homeless client –
“Where is your Family?” and act as a third party between the homeless and their
families, so some may come Home. I do
realize that sending some
back to their families would not be safe or wise, however how are we to know
that if we do not ask?
Would
you be able to put a proviso on you grant reciever’s here in Topeka and elsewhere to simply
have them ask there homeless clients: “Where
is your Family or Relationships?”
“How can we help you go home to them?” They may already be doing this, however when
I ask a stable person if they have asked where their (the homeless) family is
at and if he could come home to them temporarily, the person almost always
tells me: “Gee, I never would have
thought of that!”.
I would also appreciate a response from you so I may know if you can or
cannot do this. Thank you for time and
consideration.
