Flag Officer ŜiparadmiralegoFleet Admiral A Flag Office is generally a "desk job", although generally only Commodores find themselves in the actual combat theatre.  The rank of Fleet Admiral exists only during major wars, and its holder has absolute authority over the entire navy, subject only to the Emperor himself.

Commanding Officer ŜipestroCaptain Every ship and boat with a crew of at least ten men must have a single Captain, and at least one Commander.  The Captain's Unulo (First Officer) is most often the single Commander on the vessel, although this is not a set rule, and a First Officer may be of any rank below Captain.

Officer Leŭtenanta-KomandistoLt. Commander New officers (either just out of the Academy or otherwise commissioned) generally receive their commission at the rank of Second Lieutenant.  Onboard a ship, First Lieutenants on up usually have their own cabins (the privilege of rank).

Eneiristo Recruit New recruits (during basic training) would wear no uniform insignia, since they have no uniform (they customarily go through training naked (for conditioning, hazing, and team-building purposes—and, yes, studies actually have shown that the overall esprit d'corps is improved this way).
