Genesis
Understanding the inspired book of Genesis is fundamental in assisting us to understand both God and mankind. Genesis 11 1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. 3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. 4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built. 6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

What happened at the tower of Babel? God is painting a picture for us of mankind climbing to the summit of self-aggrandizement. There is no restraint in his rebellion against God.He proceeds to use his imagination to dredge up new acts of unclean behaviour to parade before the willing and unwilling alike. Today we have constructed our own towers of Babel. Prostitutes continue unabated to make a name for themselves, so that their "business" will prosper.

Drug dealers exploit those who are vulnerable. Pornography promoters blush no eyelid when exploiting the private genitalia of men, women and even children. The human imagination left to loiter in lawlessness, undisciplined by God's Word, results, in short, in utter confusion. Our prayer is to be diligent in desire for the ever-increasing dawning of discernment in our lives. Only as we gain discernment between that which is unloving and loving will we be allowed by God to transition from having the witness that "work is my life' motivation to the witness that hallowing God's Name is my life's motivation.

In order to be able to do this we must gain a grasp of the difference between being loving and hateful. I'm going to introduce you, cherished reader, to an approach that I find very effective. Let us turn to 1 Cor 13: 4-8. From these verses we can grasp not only what love is, but also what hatred is. We can conclude that the unloving or hateful will manifest behaviour that is very impatient, and very unkind. They will put on airs and be puffed up.

They will be jealous, rude, selfish, irritable, resentful, glad when others go wrong, saddened by good things happening in other peoples lives, lacking in hope, quick to expose faults in self and others, and unwilling to be eager to believe the best. Reading Romans 1:24-32 God's Word expresses the situation of fallen mankind's malaise far better than I can. Although God's spirit is an assuring spirit certain assuring feelings can deceive us!

When a human being has a living relationship with God his gift of faith from God gives him or her assured feelings that Jesus Christ is the Name to publish to the world.

His unique beauty of character has been revealed to their heart and they only want to speak boldly of His unique beauty.

A moments reflection also reveals that it is possible for a human being to become assured drawing from their feelings and thought life that this isn't so.

When we are involved in selfish activities we often reassure ourselves, emotionally, that we are doing the right thing. The lesson to learn from this is that although feedback from the five senses makes a huge contribution to how we feel emotionally it needs putting to the test.

The dilemma is that many people believe erroneously that they are loving God and being intimately loved by God when essentially they are worshiping the feedback from their five senses! The feedback from their eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and body thrills them and rightly so. It is God blessing them but isn't a reliable indicator as to whether they are saved.

May times such a person is still unsaved and a one-sided enjoyment of the five senses doesn't point to a living faith in the God of the Holy Bible. It points, rather, to a love of the temporal before the eternal. Nonetheless it is a very promising start so let us pray from Psalm 23:6. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

A deeper question needs probing: wherein is true beauty to be found? Everybody is searching for increased beauty to come their way. There is physical beauty, emotional beauty, beauty of thought and possible beauty associated with our decision making! All this beauty, or gifting to us, is a gift of the Creator!

Purity, wisdom, truth, justice, beauty, love, compassion, faith, joy, peace, patience, goodness, meekness, self-control,long-suffering are all available to us providing we set our mind on pursuing these wondrous virtues that are all resident in Our Creator's character.

The great longing of the soul of man is to be beautified, is to be baptised clean by Jesus Christ, is to be purified, is to be made holy. All this language means the same thing; because only God's beloved, Jesus Christ, can wash away the sins in our corrupt soul. This he did on Calvary's Cross; for those that God draws to Him during the course of their temporal life.

From the verses beneath we are informed that we were created by God. On account of God breathing into us we became a living soul. So the outer flesh is dust and the soul is eternal. God immediately points to our specialness. We are an astonishing creation and only hallowed behaviour towards God befits such a creation.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. Jesus Christ is the Word [John1:1].

On a different ocassion Jesus said, "my Words are Spirit and Truth". Everything recorded in the holy Bible is truthful. Laughter Many parents show by their behaviour that they believe that they can laugh about their children. They say things, even to friendly strangers, like sometimes I would like to strangle them, even though I love them. Bringing wrong thinking into our consciousness is wrong! The deception is very envasive and debilitating despite our endeavours to "cover it up" with humour.

Exasperation is to be expelled, not clothed in candy floss.

Smirking. When God commands us in the Lord's Prayer to pray "Give us this day our daily bread" if we find ourselves smirking when questioned over our negligence to be obedient to this commandment it is evident that we view ourselves as wise in our own eyes. The correct response, henceforth, would be to decide to take God seriously! The uniqueness of mankind! When holy God created us He referred to His creation as very good. When He created the other animals, birds, fauna and flora, the sea and mountains, the skies and everything that He created, He referred to it as good. It is vital, therefore, that we place a very high worth on ourselves and our fellowman. Many people quite rightly cringe at the maltreatment of animals. It is inhumane to kick a dog repeatedly or punch it in its face out of anger. If we are to understand God's assessment of our value properly we should be appalled at those who punch their fellowman in the face or kick out at them physically and emotionally. Alas because of the terrible corruption of the human soul "kicking back" is sometimes applauded. Our God is not too small! How do we know if we have made an image of God that is nothing approaching the beauty of God? The answer is found in how we treat our fellowman. If we allow a spirit of fighting back, in stressful times, to well up our hearts we, too, like Peter will run to our swords and lop off ears. History has been replete with acts of unforgiveness. Yes, it is extraordinarily hard when the provocation is wicked. God's Word is clear that God is a God of peace and desires us all, indeed, commands us all to "turn the other cheek". This expression means God desires us to trust His emotional response to the evil perpetrated and not our own responces. God goes even further and commands us to pray for our enemies. Our "enemies" biblically speaking are anybody who God has not yet saved to a Christian walk. God's explained intention in the Holy Bible is to save souls. If we live a life which ignores God's heart's desire then we can hardly lay claim to loving Him. Anybody desirous to hallow God's Name must start practicing singing the praises of God's wisdom. Choosing different goals to God's goals would show that we are still in rebellion against Him. Human beings love to talk about themselves. This is to be commended, but not at the expense of singing to our neighbour of God's love for us. If our "boast" is not in the purity and holiness of Jesus Christ our boast will be in some other arena of human endeavour. This must change, if we want a honourable walk with the most cherished friend of all friends. Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. Genesis ch.2v 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Genesis ch.6v 3-8 3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. 5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. What is the most wicked type of deception? The more the years roll by I realize that the level of deception that Eve fell for in the garden of Eden was no small deception. What happened is that Satan clothed his deception in the language of assurance! In contradicting God he mentions that He is merciful. The subtlety of his deceptive powers is astonishing. We as students of God's Word must always be wary and attentive. Illustrating deception. [1]Most certainly believers can drink alcohol and can smoke cigarettes. [2] Most assuredly they can divorce; for God Himself allowed it in the times of Moses. All this type of talk is clothed in the language of assurance, yet it is false teaching! Let us be so attentive, treasured reader, lest we like Eve fall for this wicked speech form that the fallen angel, Satan, parading as light has in his armoury. On this web site I am going to be focusing on introducing the book of Genesis, because understanding this inspired book is fundamental in assisting us to understand both God and mankind.
