Ahem
Boys and girls, I base my campaign this year on the verbosity of former Vice President of the United States, Daniel Quayle.  Mr. Quayle said: One word probably sums up the responsibility of any Vice President, and that one word is: to be prepared.  I can promise that this one word will be the objective of my term.
You know, many people think that I am running as a joke, but I insist that I am very serious about this barnstorm (wait for applause and laughter to subside)just as serious as Gino Stolfa (pause)and thats very serious.  For example, I, Lucas Heffer Will not do anything to demean or demoralize this coveted post.  I will not try to win your vote by pulling some ill-conceived stunt (cough - right after Sherman Cooper took a pie to the face to show how serious he was about this election).  I believe it is a time to take a big step into the world ahead of us.  As one Dan Quayle once said: We dont want to go back to tomorrow, we want to go forward.  I beseech you all to vote for me and step ahead, for a vote cast for an opponent will surely be a leap backward.  Since the candidate with the most votes usually wins, a vote for me will count toward success; success not only for me, but for the Class of 2002.
I leave you with this: An important part of passing is not failing, and I implore you, dont fail yourselves, vote for me.  Thanks.
This was a close race indeed, as you probably know, I lost.  So they say.  I think the powers that be just couldn't handle the thought of me being VP.  It's not like i would have done anything...
