Huzzah! I got the grade report back for that awful Chinese civilization paper I wrote. Below, I have transcribed the graders entire comments, attached via double-size Post-it note: "Lucas, This paper contains VERY little substance. There is no thesis, and the body amounts to little more than a randomly assembled collection of unsubstantiated observations. Some passages say absolutely nothing. Your writing style is far too colloquial. Too short." Grade: 60 D- You know, I could get mad at that, but why? He was absolutely right and it took 13 years for someone to notice. Sure, I've gotten bad grades before, but this guy was very emphatic about the general absurdity of the paper, which shows he knows his shit. Very admirable. Also, this sets a very low standard for me to live up to in his eyes, and I'm cool with that. Remarkably, he did bump me up to a 60 from a 55, when I admittedly deserved far worse. Now my only goal left for my entire college career is the coveted, yet extremely rare D+. I'll let you know. Feel free to reread my original paper where I added in his comments. |
