THE AGE OF MIRACLES

It's no accident that A Course in Miracles was sent to earth near the end of the twentieth century. The Course's ability to appeal to intellectuals while deftly guiding its students out of the dangerous waters of intellecualism into an ocean of unthinkable peace is in a manner of speaking, "just what the Coast Guard ordered."

Yes, the Age of Reason attempted a rescue several centuries ago, throwing life preservers to human beings being pulled under by the seaweed of church-state dogma. Yes, the Age of Reason churned up a wake of unheard of freedom and prosperity. Unfortunately, that earlier rescue mission simultaneously stirred up muddy waters of future destruction. Within a few short generations the Age of Reason had sunk into a murky dark Age of Intellectualism, offering impecable logic based on spiritually false premises to bring about immeasurable death, poverty, and suffering. The final result, the twentieth century, was one of the darkest centuries in history.

If the Age of Reason was a "course correction" given by the Holy Spirit, then the subsequent over-correction, the reactive over-steering by human minds jerking the wheel too far, made it necessary to have the correction corrected. The twentieth century radioed a despairing SOS from the depths of pain and A Course in Miracles was dispatched to the rescue.

As we head into the year 2001 the ecstatic joy released with all great rescues is ours to feel. Call it the dawning of the Age of Miracles. Maybe you've noticed that the government programs and social experiments championed by the intellectual elite are everywhere falling out of favor while the much deeper, more profoundly moving, and far more enjoyable plan of the Holy Spirit for salvation is gaining momentum.

The United Nations, an organization originally created in the hopes of bringing about effective influence of the entire world by an intellectual elite, is now at least giving lip service to spiritual advancement, encouraging one of the world's most advanced spiritual training centers, Endeavor Academy, to maintain an office at the United Nations building where A Course in Miracles can be missionized as never before.

Moving into the White House in 2001 will be a President who is adamant about helping spiritually based poverty programs and spiritually based rehabilitation programs. No longer will truly compassionate men and women who are struggling on shoestring budgets to keep alive programs with records of proven success be tortured or shot down by biased regulations which serve only the spiritually bankrupt values of the intellectual elite.

Even within the Course in Miracles movement itself the agonizingly over-intellectual approach of some of the early networkers and teachers has fallen at least somewhat out of favor as those who are expanding evermore into the spiritual experience see their joy and love and peace explode out of this world as they quiet, quench and quit their intellectualizing.

Judge Sweet of the US Federal Court who meant to ridicule A Course in Miracles by stating in his judicial opinion that he found the Course "...bewildered, bewildering, yet not terribly novel..." was actually validating the Course's efficiency at boggling the intellect. The Holy Spirit joyfully accepts the compliment.

Those students of A Course in Miracles who are intellectually inclined may also be inclined to defend their intellectualism by arguing something like, "The Holy Spirit uses all things for it's purposes, including the human intellect."

This true argument brings a smile to the faces of enlightened ones who know that the Holy Spirit loves to use the trickster to trick the trickster.

No enlightened being would deny that the Age of Reason was itself ushered in by the Holy Spirit. What we do deny is that you can keep your intellect engaged and at one and the same time hear the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking inside yourself. We do deny that you can at one and the same time focus on your conceptual thoughts and experience the glory of God's formless thoughts. We do guarantee that you cannot reach the highest heights of enlightenment, which is what you really want, while squeezing down your otherwise infinite mind into formed thoughts, no matter how "high minded" your thoughts are pretending to be.

That which is formed knows not of the formless. St. Paul stated it marvelously when he said: "And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Not the wisdom of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, which comes to nought." (1 Corinthians: 4-6) Paul might as well have said, "If you think your intellect is going to rescue you or the world, you need to quit thinking."

By sending A Course in Miracles to earth while one of the darkest centuries in history approached an end, Jesus continues to convey the message, "As always, I am with you. The mistakes of your thinking may cause intense pain, but I am here to rescue you."

It's a message Jesus has always given us, but this time the pain of the twentieth century has magnified the meaning: "You don't want pain, sickness, suffering, and death. You do want total enlightenment. And expansion to enlightenment is reached any moment during which your intellect is totally doing nothing."

In A course in Miracles Jesus teaches us that when relying on our human perception we simply do not know and cannot understand what is really going on and therefore logical reasoning cannot be used for an individual's or a society's major decisions unless premises are heard inside from the Voice of the Holy Spirit when the intellect is quiet. But Jesus takes it a step further. If your inner hearing is good enough to hear the premises with which to reason, why wouldn't it also be clear enough to hear the conclusions without having to know the premises? It's called trust.

Stated in everyday language, what you really, really, really, really want is a totally quiet mind that makes no attempt to figure things out but relies with total trust on the instructions given by the Voice of the Holy Spirit heard inside, even when those instructions go against everything your logic would normally conclude.

Only by short-circuiting the habit of intellectualism and embracing the Voice of the Holy Spirit do you come to experience what St. Paul calls "the peace that passeth understanding," what other poets have channeled as the unbearable joy of being Home.

When you choose the experience of being Home you choose it for everyone, since everyone is really you. When you choose out-of-this-world joy and happiness your upliftment lifts up the entire world. When you choose love so overwhelming that your intellect becomes at least momentarily dazed and agog you shine light into the darkness of an old age and reveal a new age such as has never been seen on earth.

You've been waiting a long time for 2001. Now is the time for an expansion of freedom and an expansion of prosperity infinitely brighter than the expansion of the Age of Reason. 2001 is your time. You are the one who has chosen it. You have decided to lift the earth and ultimately transcend earth altogether.

Welcome to the Age of Miracles!
