There is nothing in the world like love.
Intellectually inclined teachers of A Course in Miracles would speak up at this point and say there is nothing in the world at all, but we don't really need to go there, do we?
Where we need to go is Heaven in the sense of opening to an experience which is out of this world and cannot be duplicated in this world. Some call it the experience of total enlightenment. Others might call it Nirvana or Samadhi. Still others might call it Home.
Whatever this experience happens to be named, it is the experience you have always sought which could never be found either in love affairs on one end of the worldly spectrum or drug affairs on the other end because it cannot be found on earth. It is the experience you have always really, really, really, really wanted.
There is no place like Home!
This age-old saying, which is more than a saying but actually a heartfelt feeling, is truer than most people think. Jesus tells us in A Course in Miracles Home cannot be a place and a place cannot be Home.
So maybe we could designate a spiritual principle: If you are aware of place, you are not experiencing being Home.
What purpose is served by so many students of A Course in Miracles going around saying, "We're already Home! We're already Home! We're already Home!"
Could it be the purpose of avoiding really, really, really experiencing Home?
Could it be that one's mind in ego consciousness uses A Course in Miracles for its purposes much like the Holy Spirit uses the ego's vested interests for Holy purposes?
Could it be that one's mind in ego consciousness likes to say it is already Home so it doesn't have to experience being Home?
Jesus tells us A Course in Miracles was given as a preparation device. Preparation for what? For spouting ACIM aphorisms and platitudes? Or for an experience that is not of this world?
Really advanced teachers of A Course in Miracles tell their students: "Don't talk in Course language any more than absolutely necessary. A Course in Miracles is not to be substituted in your mind as a new theology or philosophy or system of thought. It is a device for undoing your mind not substituting new ways of doing."
Some might say A Course in Miracles is a device which allows the Holy Spirit to operate on your mind in much the same way that modern laser devices allow doctors to perform laser surgical operations which help the body heal. Do people who go into hospitals for laser surgery sit around in study groups analyzing the devices which doctors are using? Or do they trust and let the devices to do their healing work?
Really advanced teachers of A Course in Miracles say to their students: "Don't try to figure out what A Course in Miracles is teaching. Read it as if understanding is not the goal but allowing it to work on you and heal you is the goal."
Yes, A Course in Miracles was channeled to intellectual types. And why not? It has been intellectualism based on non-spiritual premises that has stifled freedom in so many ways in the last century and given rise to so much more pain than would have otherwise been experienced in earth.
If you were the Holy Spirit opening the world to new radiance of spiritual light, wouldn't you consider open heart zzzurgery on intellectuals?
But being the Holy Spirit, you would also know in advance that intellectuals are going to intellectualize your Course. It's a chance you'd take, right? For a while there would be teachers who teach sitting around in discussion groups and talking about your Course instead of quietly allowing the Course to do the work it was sent to do by not falling for the temptation to talk .
Being the Holy Spirit you would know that someday teachers would emerge who would teach using A Course in Miracles as it was meant to be used.
Now such teachers have emerged. They are teachers who have progressed far beyond the study group stage and have been opened to their Glory, a radiance not really imaginable in earth consciousness. They are teachers whose momentary touch or momentary loving gaze can open you to more of who you really, really, really are than you would have opened to in thirty-five years of study group discussions.
These are the teachers who take you Home, not to some intellectual idea that you are already Home, but to an experience of what it's really like.
There are many such teachers peacefully waiting for students who are ready to find them. Here in Salt Lake City our little group which meets several times a week to expand into light (not to study or substitute one kind of doing for another) has several teachers who are capable of opening others by a simple touch or a simple prayerful glance in their direction.
