Yridu, one of Ambassador Pendar's aides, returns to Pendar's quarters
after the Horizon's displacement through space and time.

Lt. 'n Galeda determines they arrived in November 1492, when
Christopher Columbus was about to discover America. Lt. Einicrox finds
his trio of ships on the Atlantic Ocean, still some distance from the
New World. She and 'n Galeda also locate the USS Chupacabra, or what's
left of it. Two large parts are in the Atlantic, another large part is
on the coast near the Gulf of Mexico, and about a thousand smaller
parts are scattered across a huge area.

It looks like about a hundred members of the Chupacabra's crew
couldn't abandon the ship in time. Those that did survive are spread
out across the globe. Two Humans are in an unpopulated area of the New
Zealand islands, a Bajoran and two Humans are in Central America,
another Human is in Great Brittain, two more are in Mongolia, and
finally there is a Vulcan in a prison in Spain run by the Spanish
Inquisition. Five crew members are unaccounted for. Ensign Sophie
Ciate, a cryptographist whose fiancé, Laim Taur, was on the
Chupacabra, turns angry at 'n Gelada for his emotionless report on the
crew's whereabouts. She leaves the bridge after a word from Captain
Burke. Lt<jg> O'Leary suggests 'n Galeda have a talk with her at some
later time. 'n Galeda agrees. While the others continue the
investigations, he joins Ciate in a climbing exercise in the holodeck.
They come out understanding each other a bit better.

Burke calls a quick staff meeting, where Pendar and Starfleet diplomat
Jamie Parr are also present. Burke outlines their three objectives:
rescue the Chupacabra's survivors and collect the dead, remove all
debris from, and find a way back to their own time, all without
contaminating history. Pendar offers to help with his people's
cloaking technology, but meanwhile he has plans of his own.
