Dimitar Peshev (1894-1973) Deputy-Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament in 1943, drafted and together with 42 other Members of Parliament signed a letter of protest to the Prime Minister, opposing the deportation of Bulgarian Jews and the delivery of Bulgarian citizens to a foreign Power. |

against deportation, signed by 43 Members of Parliament: <… such a measure is unthinkable… It would brand Bulgaria with an undeserved stain, that not only would burden her morally, but also would void all her moral standing. … it is absolutely needless to recur to utterly cruel measures which might lead to an accusation of mass murder. … The honor of Bulgaria and her people is a political asset of the greatest value, therefore nobody has the right to waste it without the approval of the entire nation…> |
