May Lesson - The White Horse The White Horse (or the White Horse Hill) can be found in Uffington, England. This is about 60 miles (approx. 100 kilometers) from London. The White Horse is the oldest chalk figure in Britain dating back over 3,000 years. This is pretty old even for us wizarding types. It is nine hundred feet above the sea level, and about 374 feet in length. Of course Muggles, have been "pretty clever" with this site. They have found what they call an Iron Age hillfort (an old dragon/dragon part trading post) and two Neolithic sites, (one an infirmary, which we used for the dragon handlers, if things had gotten out of hand and the other a pub which was used for many a celebratory drink and a get-together of families, long since separated by marriage/work etc..) However it is beyond them how the Horse was formed as at the time they could not fly/levitate. They do however think that it was a meeting place, for their old ancestors. The Muggles have even called one of the mounds there Dragon's Hill, it is a low flat-topped mound situated in the valley below the White Horse. They say it is the place where St. George slew the dragon, its blood spilling on the hilltop and leaving forever a bare white patch where no grass can grow. Some Muggles think that the horse is a representation of St. George's horse. Wizards know of course that it is indeed Dragons Hill, but it is a dragon breeding nest, not St. George's dragons resting place (and lets face it what a cruel man to slay a harmless dragon!) Some Muggles feel that what they have found there are "dinosaur eggs."(in fact dragons nests, Muggles are given a quick 'obliviate' if they find nests) Have you ever heard anything so ridiculous? For wizards and witches in the present day, after dusk, White Horse Hill is still 'the place' to buy fresh dragon parts for potions or wands. You must still however enter the Horse through the eye, and aboard a broom, as was expected in "the old days." Wizard/witches should note that because of the breeding of dragons on site that wands and potions made with these ingredients are more than likely to be 3 times as powerful as store bought. Also they should know that Dragons in Britain are protected and therefore no dragons are hurt in this process. It is possible to even buy a Dragon. It should be noted that the Ministry Of Magic for Great Britain prohibits the keeping of live dragons, for obvious reasons...and if you don't know these they are as follows:- ( and will be enforced by The Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures) a) Fire breathing leads to dangerous situations. b) Size (they cannot be hidden) outside of Ministry sites. c) Some types are poisonous. d) Flight risk. Muggles now fly in what they call airplanes, and dragons flying in their paths is no longer safe. |
