1. HIRAM R. HOLMES was born abt. 1835 in Hall County, Georgia and died aft. 1880. He married MARY SWAFFORD 08 October 1857 in Gwinnett County, Georgia, daughter of WILLIAM SWAFFORD.

*Note on Hiram Holmes:
It has been said that Hiram Holmes left his wife Mary and married her cousin Winnie Swafford. Winnie Swafford and her two children were living next door to Hiram and Mary in the 1870 Census. In 1880, Hiram is enumerated with a Winnie as his wife in Cherokee County, Georgia. Supposedly he passed away in the early 1900's, in Blount County, Al. Considering his major heart problems that got him released from the civil war, I thought he had passed away bef. 1880. So far, it looks to be true that he did, in fact, leave his first wife and remarry. I am researching this now and any information I find, will be added.

2. ELIAS RICHARD HOLMES (Hiram R) was born abt. 1868 in Gwinnett County, Georgia, and died 04 September 1914 in Oconee County, South Carolina. He married LUCY A. STONE in 1890, daughter of ROBERT STONE and SUSAN HARBIN.

She married HORACE LEEMAN GILBERT 22 November 1919 in Anderson County, South Carolina, son of WILLIAM E. GILBERT and SARAH J. WELBORN.
