For Your Eyes Only

Roger Moore (1981)

In 1981 Roger Moore returned as James Bond for the fifth time and performed what many believe to be his most serious and down to earth portrayal of 007. Although I tend to dissagree slightly, FYEO is still none the less a get away from the normal Moore movie containing dry humor and crazy antics. Its seriousness and credability tends to hit home well.

In this, the twelfth film of the series, the British ship St.Georges is sunk off the coast of Albania while carrying the ATAC, a device used to send launch instructions to the British fleets. Bond is sent to investigate the murder of the man hired by Britain to retrieve the ATAC and he finds much more than he bargained for.The Soviets, after hearing about the sinking see this as an essential opportunity to gain an edge on Britain and they also set out to retrieve it using the evil Kristatos (Julian Glover) to lie and cheat his way to its location well beneath the Mediterrainean's surface.

Bond's reaction to young Bi-Bi's attraction for Him

As expexted, there is a race to obtain the device and along the way, Bond's adventures take him into contact with Melina Havelock (Carole Bouquet), daughter of the late murdered explorer hired by the British to find the ATAC, obsessed with avenging the death of her parents. A smuggler by the name of Columbo (Topol) also helps 007 along the way to recovering the important device.

Not relying so much on Q's gadgetry and increadible luck of consequence like previous Bond movies, the fate of this films' plot settles in the hands of Roger Moore and a strong supporting cast who need to use thier wit and intellegence to solve many a problem on the road to success. Credible characters, exciting locales, and fast pace action including a great ski chase and a high mountain top climax among other things make For Your Eyes Only a good solid film which I would reccomend to any Bond fan!
